Are there instructions on how to use tinyumbrella? The phone is still currently on 3.1.3. I would like to save my shsh manually.
Please ignore Leon - he is providing inaccurate information. You can NOT retrieve your 3.1.3 SHSH from Apple. This is because Apple stopped signing 3.1.3 SHSH requests shortly after iOS 4.0 was released. Your only chance is if Cydia has processed your 3.1.3 request. You can check this with TinyUmbrella.

As I just responded in another thread - see Hack that Phone - iPhone 3G S: Restoring "forbidden" firmware this guide

Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable.

Skip the first two steps, in step 3 download the most recent version of TinyUmbrella then where it says:

If you check the Advanced Options box, you will see more information.
Ignore the following sentence in the instructions - the value in the ECID box is correct - this has been a common misconception. In fact it is just a different way of writing the ECID. (Decimal versus hexadecimal)

There will be a number in the ECID box, but this is not your ECID. You will need to clear out this box and enter your ECID that you found in step 1
Select Device/Version: iPhone 3GS - 3.1.3 and leave the location as Cydia.

Click "Save my SHSH" then wait 60 seconds

If succesfull, the log field should report:
    Code:
    >> Processing SHSH Request...
    >> SHSH Response Captured for [iPhone3GS 3.1.3 (7E18)]
You can also verify this by clicking on "Display SHSHs" this should tell you if you have a SHSH for 3.1.3.

Unfortunately it only shows that I have the SHSH saved for OS 4.0. I clicked on the displays SHSH and it shows "The following device/ECIDs can be restored safely: Iphone3gs 4.0"

However I did click on make my life easier when i first started cydia up, so I am not sure if my request is going to go through.

If you have AFC2 enabled, then use any iPhone file browser to put OpenSSH.deb in AutoInstall folder (iClarified - iPhone - How to Auto Install a DEB File Using Cydia)
then restart. The package should be installed after you've restarted your phone and you should be able to SSH and reinstall Cydia - dpkg -i cydia-new.dpkg

Depends on when you clicked "make my life easier". Saurik's system is not real-time - there can be a delay of days or even a week from when you click "make my life easier" until when Cydia/Saurik's server tries to request a SHSH from Apple. Apple stopped signing requests for 3.1.3 a few days after the iOS 4.0 official release.

Are you 100% sure you went into advanced mode, selected 3g3 - 3.1.3 and Cydia as source then clicked on "save my SHSH"?

If you just clicked "save my SHSH" without first going to advanced mode and changing to 3.1.3 then TinyUmbrella will default to requesting an iOS 4.0 SHSH for you.
