Default 3GS 5.0.1. IPAD BASEBAND 06.15.00 No Service please help!

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before but please read this and try to help me!

I bought an unlocked iphone 3gs with the 06.15.00 baseband it was running 4.2.1 - I upgraded to 5.0.1 through iTunes (I read you can't do that after you've already updated to the ipad baseband).

I downloaded the correct redsn0w jailbroke it, downloaded ultrasnow unlocked it - I also downloaded iFile and tried the method where you replace the file too. I still get no service.

My question is do I have to use a certain firmware .ispw now since I already had the ipad baseband and updated with iTunes? Did I ruin the phone? Please help!

Most users have to re-flash the 06.15.00 baseband when they upgrade to 5.0.1. Try that first. Secondarily, as noted in the documentation for the tools that upgraded you to the iPad baseband, yes, any time you restore in the future you must remove the baseband update and restore the phone. If you include the baseband update, the phone will bootloop.

Past that, does your carrier require a carrier profile in order to obtain service (.IPCC file?) if so, you have to use wortel's patched CommCenterClassic. Last but not least, if you jailbroke initially with redsn0w 0.9.10b1, you will need to either re-jailbreak with the newest version (0.9.10b5 I believe) or install the 'Corona 5.0.1 Untether' package, as the initial 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak had a problem with launchctld that caused SSH and ultrasn0w (among other things) not to work.

I did use Redsn0w b3 then b4. Installed Corona every time, and also tried the patch. Did I install the firmware wrong since I just updated it through itunes after already having the ipad baseband? I've tried everything and still get no service.

No, you didn't do anything wrong with the firmware update process -- but again, most users have to re-flash the iPad baseband after they upgrade to 5.0.1 in iTunes. Have you used redsn0w to re-flash the iPad baseband since you upgraded to 5.0.1? It won't cause any problems to flash it again, and most users have stated that they have to do so in order to gain service after updating and jailbreaking.

I can't figure out why I'm not getting service.

I can't stress enough that you shouldn't download random custom firmware off the internet -- you can create all of this yourself and they've already found custom .IPSWs seeded with proxy data meant to steal your browsing data and network data, and you can never know for certain what the person put into the firmware. Since all tools are freely available for Mac/PC/Linux now, you really should make them yourself.

We don't recommend trying firmware for old bootrom phones on new bootrom phones -- just do the work to find out what bootrom you have. You can bootloop your phone and end up in a worse situation than you are now if you put the wrong firmware there...

The digits 3,4,5 are 050 is it the old bootroom or new? Any ideas why I am continuing to get no service? Is the phone broken? I left the sim in over night and got a text message randomly and woke up with no service and continued to get no service. I also looked at network and it didn't read t mobile.

You shouldn't use the S/N to determine bootrom, it's not normally 100% reliable -- but in your case, it can be reasonably extrapolated that you have a new bootrom device since you're not even really near the cut-off. I was asking because devices where the 3rd digit is 1 and the 4th and 5th are greater than 35, the iPad baseband will brick the phone's baseband. You should be safe from that though as your device is old enough that the iPad baseband should work.

If after all this it still doesn't work, my best recommendation would be to re-restore and re-jailbreak the phone. Use redsn0w to make the custom .IPSW with no baseband, put the phone into Pwned DFU mode, restore the firmware, reinstall ultrasn0w, see if that works.
