there are several apps, most notably dragon dictation and snapture that require a higher firmware than my now current 3.0. i'm a bit confused with the new apple problem. i have no desire to go to 3.1.3 but i wouldn't mind even being at 3.1 to use the newer apps. i'm jailbroken via pwnage and unlocked vis ultrasn0w. can i safely still do an inbetween upgrade or am i better off just waiting (however long) for the next dev team tool. i do not want to get into a teathered jailbreak. i'm not unhappy at all at 3.0 just wouldn't mind having a couple of updated apps that don't function on that firmware.

any help/suggestions would appreciated

You can use pwnagetool custom ipsw to go to 3.1 or 3.1.2 and keep the ultrasn0w unlock. It is straightforward and safe.

You will NOT have a tethered jailbreak (this only occurs when you have a 3GS made after september/october 2009)

When you launch Cydia, it should say which OS versions you have a SHSH on file for. For example I have 3.1 and 3.1.2 on file. It is useful to have this a safety net in case something goes really wrong and you have no choice but to restore to an original Apple IPSW (should be an absolute last resort)

thanks, i do have 3.1. and 3.1.2 on file with cydia. so, i just use the normal procedure i always do ? build the custom software bundle with pwnage and unlock with ultrasn0w? that's great.

i used that Tii tip about getting more than 11 app pages. i don't like categories because i do all my own icons and like the way they look so i assume i'll have to go through making all 17 pages again but as long as i can continue to keep my 3GS working via pwnage and ultrasn0w, i'll be very happy!

Since you're already on 3.0, after the 3.1.2 pwnagetool update, you could allow iTunes to restore from your backup. Shouldn't be a problem since the major version numbers are the same

I have a jailbroken iphone 3gs running 3.0 (7A341) the S/N shows 2009 week 24 with 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 (any reason why theres no 3.0, 3.1 ?)

I'm a bit late to upgrading, just wanted to know if i'm able to downgrade back to 3.0 and if i can upgrade to 3.1.2 (I assume apple has stopped signing anything below 3.1.3) and if thats the case must i use cydia to act as my server for signing the 3.1.2 package?

I was rather confused but after reading a few of your posts Olethros its started to make more sense (that and cydia has just told me my shsh is on file as i was writing this ) I just would to clarify it all before i do it

also I can't remember the last time i jailbroke this, will i lose everything on the phone and need to use a backup of some sort (applications/music etc)?

Why there is no 3.1 is that you were slow to click the "make my life easier button" in Cydia.

Very few people got a chance to backup their 3.0 and 3.0.1 SHSH there was only 2-3 days when this was possible before Apple closed the door.

Yes you can restore to 3.1.2 but you can't go back to OS 3.0

Do you use ultrasn0w? If so I would recommend you use pwnagetool to safely upgrade to OS 3.1.2

Best to set the iPhone up as new and then sync your data back.. You can try an upgrade if you want.. Will preserve your data but has been known to occasionally make jailbroken iPhones more unstable.

Yeah I may be better off to wipe it and start fresh just need to find time to backup the 32GB worth of data on their >_>

Would anyone happen to have a backup of this pdf? the Saurik one does explain it rather well but it would be nice if the pdf had more technical details i've just been looking into the blobs for various ecid's (can virtually pass any valid ecid to apple and get a response) and comparing to older versions although i'm not very good at cryptography it does seem like it would be possible for someone to study people with 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 files and try to figure out how these partial digest strings are generated there are some differences in structures for different ecid's but overall the same (except the digest ofcourse) if these signatures could be reproduced then it seems possible to generate our own signatures even for 3.0 for someone who doesn't have one

of course just a pure guess i assume someone would of already tried by now thats why i'd like to dig deeper and learn why they couldn't do it

Also I don't use a mac is it safe to use ultrasnow/blacksnow? I don't think there is a pwnagetool for windows

also just confirmed i may of used redsn0w-win_0.8 in the past
