Default 2nd gen iphone updated to 4.2 via itunes 10 locked

Ok, so my problem is i have a 2nd generation iphone which i bought from someone that got it from California before they were even out in Canada, and its locked to at&t. ive been doing the unlocks since i got it but since 3.13 i haven't bothered trying since iphone 4 wasn't ready yet. today i noticed on cydia that 4.1 was available to be unlocked, so i read a bit noticed it was using itunes 9.2 but before i knew it i already had itunes 10. i tried to put the proper ipsw from redmond pie but ended up just updating to the 4.2 through itunes 10. now my phone is updated locked to at&t power button broken so when i try to put the phone in dfu mode i cant because of the broken switch.

    any possible solutions?

when you say 2nd generation phone I gather you mean a 3G iPhone.

    One option that should work:

    requirements:
    Latest tinyumbrella
    3.1.2 original 3G IPSW

    4.1 or 4.2.1 original 3G IPSW
blackra1n rc3 (if on windows and you don't want to downgrade iTunes to 9.0.2 then you need to take a few more steps here)
Pwnagetool 3.1.5 or 3.1.4 and access to a mac to run pwnagetool/make custom IPSW.

    optional:
    Pwnagetool 4.1.2 or 4.1.3
    3.2.2 original iPad IPSW

If you can manage to get the phone into recovery mode (this doesn't require the power button) - then you have some options.

TinyUmbrella has an option to enter recovery mode. (as well as exit)

Downgrade to stock 3.1.2 - use tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery mode (downgrade will error out with a 1014 or 1015 error - ignore this and simply use tiny umbrella to exit recovery)

Jailbreak with blackra1n (yes you read this right, i'm recommending blackra1n for once)

Use PwnageTool 3.1.4 or 3.1.5 to make a custom IPSW for iOS 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, then simply restore this custom ipsw in iTunes. This will give you a proper jailbreak without the limitations of blackra1n.

At this point, everything beside unlock should work (without needing dfu mode)

To get your phone unlocked you either need to try fuzzyband downgrader (less than 1% chance your phone will work with fuzzband) or:

you need to use the http://www.hackint0sh.org/f159/192426.htm technique (upgrading baseband to iPad 6.15) - the procedure the dev team recommends requires DFU mode - however there are ways to do this without DFU mode. They aren't easy (especially as it is illegal for me to post the baseband files you require) because you need to decrypt and extract the baseband files yourself from an iPad IPSW and then manually reflash your baseband to this 6.15 version.
