    Default successful install on ASUS M5A78l-M/USB3 snow leopard 10.6.3

    hello all

    as you know support for AMD CPUs is low so i was surprised to see mac running on my pc with an AMD CPU

    now as you know this may work for you it may not but its worth a try

    ok so heres my specs

    MOBO: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
    RAM : 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz
    CPU : AMD Athlon II Quad-Core 640 @ 3.00GHz
    Video card: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB
    HDD : 1TB 7600 RPM (2 partitions {part 1 =758GB - windows part 2 = 186GB - Iatkos})
    Audio: VIA VT1708S

    so now you know what pc i have and know it works lets continue

    1st download Iatkos S3 V2 you will find it here just search for it

    2nd you will notice the file is a .DMG which windows has little support but download this tool to do the job download tool - you will need to run it in CMD for it to work so extract it to c:/ then open CMD with admin rights type
    Code:
    cd c:/dmg 2 img/
    or wherever you extacted it to

    then type
    Code:
    dmg2img
    you will be told how to use it

    3rd once you have the img burn it with windows disk image burner

    4th reboot pc

    5th when it boots from disk at he os prompt press F8 and type
    Code:
    -v cpus=2
    and press enter

    once it boots up you will need to use disk ultilty to create a partition for mac to go on select erase tab and and select mac os journaled the click on erase

    once thats done you can close it

    aggree the terms

    now DONT click on continue yet, but click on the partition you just created and select customise

    now you will need these options selected this is a must

    bootloader -> chameleon v2 RC4
    bootloader options -> usbbusfix, legacy logo*, graphics enabler*
    kernal (you will find it under patches) -> qnoopz 10.2.0, usb
    drivers-> voodoo sound, no sata/ide**, no PS/2**, no cpu pm** network-wired-> RTL8168

    and thats it click ok then install and you have mac running

    * optional but i used them
    ** selecting these options WILL cause mac to either not boot (waiting for root device) or kernel panic

    hope this helps will be updating this soon with screenshots and pics

    ok below is my BIOS setup

    heres my bios setup

    main -> SATA config -> SATA mod = IDE (this should fix the waiting for boot device error. if that doesnt work try setting it to AHCI)

    advanced -> CPU config ->
    * GART error reporting = disabled
    * micro code updation = enabled
    * secure virtual machine mode = enabled (needed if you plan to use ilife)
    * cool 'n' quiet = enabled (it dont matter if this is on or off its up to you)
    * C1E support = disabled (not sure what this does so i left it off)
    * advanced clock calibration = AUTO (only use this if you overclock your pc, i overclocked mine so left it auto)
    * active cores, manual --> 2nd on
    3rd on
    4th on
    5th off
    6th off
    7th off
    8th off

    (mine was a quad core so all cores up to the 4th was on so if you have a dual core turn everything off apart from the 2nd core)

    on board devices config -> USB 3.0 controller = disabled (snow lepeord does'nt have usb 3.0 support)

    plug and play OS = NO

    Hi there.

    I have the exact same motherboard as you (and the same distro) but I seem to be stuck on the "USBF" loading part and then it leads onto "still waiting for root system".

    May I ask what BIOS settings you had?

    Cheers!

    I also have the same motherboard, but an AMD Phoenom II x6 1100T and 6GB of RAM with a Geforce synac edition. But somehow the DVD starts but it crashes before it was loaded.
    can anyone help me?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the tip! I tried it again but now it just does not load at all (not with those boot settings ).

    This is so frustrating haha, I once got it to the language selection stage but it just froze on me.
