Install Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on the Toshiba NB205
*This is a full guide for installing OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.6 that is a culmination of the work of myself and Noxin from the old thread. He doesn't seem to be active much anymore so I compiled the guides and my work for the update. The scripts have been tested by myself and jeff000 but should any problems arise let me know. I'll be working on an update to 10.6.7 in the coming days but for now this should suffice. Hope your ready for a long read! Good luck! M4K10*

Preparation:
1.) From a working installation of OSX, use Disk Utility to format a usb drive (8gb or larger) with MBR chosen under the options menu and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) under format.
2.) Prep your usb drive with the myHack installer. Be sure to change the install location to your usb drive and select ApplePS2Controller under customize.
3.) Now open terminal and enter the following command:
rm -r "/Volumes/(Name of your USB drive)/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext"
in my case the name of the USB drive was Mac OS X Install DVD (because I restored my retail Snow Leopard DVD to the USB drive)
4.) Boot your NB205 and hold F2 to enter the BIOS. Make sure Legacy USB Support is enabled and SATA Controller Mode is set to AHCI under the Advanced tab. Be sure to exit and save changes.
10.6 Installation:
1.) Plug your USB drive into your NB205
2.) Boot your NB205 holding down F12. When the boot device menu comes up select your USB drive not the internal hard drive. Boot will be slow and the graphics will be 800x600 (this is ok)
3.) Run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and format your NB205's internal hard drive. Be sure to select GUID under options and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) under format.
4.) Exit Disk Utility and install Snow Leopard. Be sure to deselect Printers and Language Translations and select Quicktime 7 and Rosetta in the customize menu.
5.) The installation will fail at around 7 minutes left. Don't worry about that, just hold down the power button to turn off your NB205.
6.) Boot your NB205 holding down F12. Again choose your USB drive under the boot menu. When the installer comes up again launch Terminal from the Utilities menu. When terminal opens, enter the following command:
rm -r "/Volumes/(Name of your hard drive)/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext"
in my case the name of the hard drive was Hackintosh HD. It just depends on what you named it is step 4 of this section.
7.) Again reboot your NB205 and hold F12 to open the boot menu. Choose the USB drive and when the chameleon bootloader shows press enter. Use the arrow keys to select your internal hard drive. Again boot time will be slow but this will be fixed in just a few steps.
8.) Run through the set up process like normal.
9.) Run the myHack installer but this time change the install location to your internal hard drive. Again, select ApplePS2Controller under customize and let it install. DO NOT REBOOT!
10.) Now, extract my Snow Leopard zip file and mount NB205 10.6.dmg by double clicking it.
11.) Now open Terminal from the Utilities folder under Applications. Once open, enter the following terminal commands:
sudo -s
cd "/Volumes/NB205 10.6/"
./Install.sh
exit
12.) You should now be out of the bash command interface but Terminal should still be open. Now you need to run pfix. When it runs it will bring up a prompt. Enter the number that corresponds to your internal hard drive and hit enter. In my case it was 1. To run pfix enter the following command:
sudo pfix
13.) Once pfix is finished running, reboot your NB205. You should now have a working installation of 10.6 with fixed graphics. If you are happy with 10.6 and don't want the Mac Appstore you can jump ahead to the Post Install section below. It will have steps to get sound working after sleep and the webcam working in Photobooth as well as some other nice software that I use on a regular basis.
10.6.6 Upgrade:
1.) Run the 10.6.6 Combo Update you downloaded earlier. Follow the instructions but DO NOT REBOOT after it has completed installation. Just leave the installer open and continue with my procedure below.
2.) Now mount NB205 10.6.6.dmg from my Snow Leopard zip file.
3.) Open terminal again and enter the following commands:
sudo -s
cd "/Volumes/NB205 10.6.6/"
./Install.sh
exit
4.) Again, run sudo pfix and select your internal drive at the prompt. Once that has completed close Terminal and open Disk Utility. Select your internal hard drive and run a permissions repair. When this has completed you can reboot your NB205.
5.) After reboot your NB205 should be running a clean install of 10.6.6 ! Congratulations! Below are a few more optional things that really make the install that much better.
Post Install:
Photobooth:
1.) Download camtwist (linked above under required under download) if you haven't already and install it.
2.) Open camtwist and select webcam under step 1:
3.) Then go to the very right to the drop down menu and make sure "USB2.0 UVC Webcam" is selected
4.) Under step 3: make sure the check box next to webcam is selected
5.) Highlight webcam and click the "save setup" button
6.) Once you have named the setup and saved it make sure it is highlighted and click select at the very bottom under step 3:
7.) Now click the "autoload" button and make sure the the font for you setup is now BOLD (it should look like the image below)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22301091/jSc.png
8.) Now open up automator from your applications folder
9.) Choose new workflow
10.) Now select "launch application" from the middle list and from the drop down menu select photobooth
11.) Next drag over "launch application" again and navigate to camtwist from your drop down menu
12.) Then drag over "quit application" and again navigate to camtwist (it will look like this when you are finished)

13.) Finally save your new workflow but select application as your format
Sound after sleep:
1.) Download sleepwatcher 2.0.5 (linked at top under required under downloads) and install both packages in the .dmg
2.) Now reboot your computer (this is necessary for the correct files to be created)
3.) Launch terminal
4.) type "cd /etc"
5.) type "sudo vi rc.wakeup"
6.) enter your password
7.) While holding shift press G
8.) Press esc then i
9.) Use the arrow keys to move the cursor past the end of done and hit enter 2 times
10.) Now copy and paste the following to the end of the file:
/sbin/kextunload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextunload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
sleep 3
/sbin/kextload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
/sbin/kextload /Extra/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext>>/var/log/system.log
11.) Press esc (the end of your file should look something like this, but with Extensions above instead of CustomExtensions like in the picture, this is from an old version of myHack that used a different folder setup )
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22301091/kcE.png
12.) Hold shift and type wq
13.) Type wq again and hit enter
14.) You can now close terminal
15.) Finally navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and delete appleHDA.kext (you may want to make a backup copy somewhere just in case)
16.) Now reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
17.) At this point your sound should unload and reload quickly after sleep and with the reload be crystal clear (no more crackle!).
Caveats:
1.) The wifi chip still does not work. I have replaced mine with a dell 15xx chip that I bought off of ebay. It is just a generic broadcom half height chip.
2.) Automatic sound switching does not work. That means that if you plug in headphones you need to manually switch the sound output.
Optional Installs:
1.) Soundsource is an application that sits in the menu bar that allows you to quickly switch sound outputs, i.e. it makes number 2 under caveats more acceptable.
2.) BetterTouchTool is an application that gives you windows 7 style window snapping. I find it really useful and I thought others might benefit/enjoy this.
3.) My theme stuff is a zip folder containing the theme I use for chameleon bootloader and a great little tool to make changing the theme easier. Just copy and paste the clean boot folder to /Extra/Themes and then run Lizard. Click the themes tab and choose clean boot from the drop down menu and then click save.
