Definitive Guide to off the shelf Desktops

After successful hacking my Dell Mini 10v all the way up to 10.6.2. I want to create a screamer desktop. I’m having trouble finding a list of compatible complete systems, so I can walk into a store or go on line and just order it. I’m looking to for an Intel core I 3, 5 or 7 that I can just buy and hack. I realize that there are multiple lists of hardware compatibility but I really don’t want to build a machine. If anyone knows of such a list or has personal experience with a modern off the shelf desk top that will just work (like the 10v) I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Im in exactly the same situation mate, If I cant find a complete system build im just going to go ahead and buy a mac mini...
