Followed the steps correctly... Tried many other ways but get to the same spot. When I try to boot off the snow leopard volume I get the following: Loading Darwin/x86. If boot off snow leopard volume with cpus=1 -v I get the following: Loading Darwinx86
    Loading kernel mach_kernel
    Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 42302f0.
    Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 42302f0.

And this is where it hangs.. What part am I going wrong on. Have clearly followed the steps.. Thanks for your help!

Ok, I'm really confused. Every guide I've read says I need a "working copy of OSX." What does that mean? Do I have to have it on the computer I'm installing Snow on? Or an actual mac? Or are you talking about the install DVD?

And if I need the install DVD, do I need to find a copy of OSX, or is the Snow Leopard upgrade enough? Apple apparently isn't selling OSX, so I don't know where to get it anymore :-/

You need to have OSX leo installed on the computer, you are installing snow on.

You need the SL retail DVD

Unhappy Installing Snow Leopard on HP Laptop G61-322NR

I've been trying to install SL on my HP laptop but cannot boot up. I've gotten to the step where I have my USB stick turned into a working booting SL operating system. When I try to boot it however I can only get to the Apple screen (white backround with gray apple in middle) and that's it! It doesn't go any further than that. Anything else I need to do or that I missed? Specs for laptop are: AMD Athlon II, Win 7, 160GB HD, 3GB RAM
