I'm thinking of making my first hackintosh and I was wondering if this setup would work? Newegg was out of the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard so I'll get it from somewhere else for $135. That brings my total to $798 + $10 for shipping.. not bad..

That looks like it should run fine, the only thing is that you don't necessarily need the network adapter. The on-board Ethernet works fine. Also, if you check my first post on this thread, there is a link to where you can get the EP45-UD3P.

If you are attempting to follow this guide, I'm sorry the hardware is not going to work. You may be able to get it to work with some hacks, but this is not the right guide for you.

It's the video card, isn't it?

I can replace that with a GeForce 9800 no problem.

    Will it work then?

That is the big problem. All Gigabyte motherboards are similar, but there is no guarantee that the EP45UD3P v3 pkg will work for your motherboard. You are welcome to try, because it would do no harm to any of your hardware.

Huh, I guess the X58A-UD3R isn't guaranteed to work then.

So, I'm not sure what is the right mobo for OSX86...

I thought that the X58A-UD3R was the mobo that OSX86 recommended for Snow Leopard.

Sure I can replace the video card, no problems, but there's just no way I'm going to rip out my mobo.

I dunno. Maybe I should really forget OSX on a PC for now.

@Cobo10201, sorry for invading your thread.

@bengamind, here are some answers for you.

Cobo has a guide for EP45 and yours is not so how would you want any guarantee. Most of files from that package are ok, but some are not usable for X58

Of course you don't know what is the right mobo from whoever's recommendation of X58 for SL.

There are lots of mobos that are compatible with OSX86, particular SL.
As far as compatibility concerned, X58 is still behind EP45.

And last, X58 is a good mobo, SL compatible but beside the EP45 package it would need quite a few more kexts/files for SL to run.

Enough said, it's a good idea for you to forget about OSX because it would take patience, trial and learning to make it happen.

    Default Success!!

    My Aha! moment at last.

It took lots of retouching, but I finally have my own custom built Hackintosh, per the genius of cobo10201.

Thank you, sir, for all the help and follow up support on this.

A few notes, and my own experience:

My install was with a retail, 10.6.3 disc, for what it's worth.
Bluetooth works great, no hassles. I just bought a bluetooth adapter for 15 bucks at the computer store, plugged it in, and Apple took care of the rest, just like my Macbook Pro. Genius!
I have an ATI Graphics card, and the sound works just fine. Don't know why, I struggled enough trying to get this all working as it was.
There were a few tweeks I had to make in bios that were different from the tutorial, as follows:
I had to select the USB keyboard to "enable" so that I could "press any key" when the backward slide thing came and "get any result". The keyboard works fine any other time, except right then, right when you need it most. Dunno why, but that's the fix.
Also, I have a cable for my internet, and in bios I also had to tell it to enable the LAN. That took forever to figure out, but when I did it, voila- dubya dubya dubya here I come (here I am, actually!)

Erm, let's see.... Oh yeah! The .pkg file worked great for the thumb drive part, but when it came to set the computer up for booting without the thumber, I had to get another copy of it directly from cobo himself- so THANK YOU again, sir.

Default Be careful if installing Ubuntu!! (or any flavor of Linux for that matter)

I have recently had a problem... I tried to install Ubuntu on a separate partition of my hard drive and something went horribly wrong... I chose for Ubuntu to install its own EFI, not thinking about already having the Chameleon bootloader that is installed with the EP45UD3P OSx86 v3 package. Long story short, the Ubuntu EFI conflicted with Chameleon and for some strange reason, unknown to me, deleted all of the video kexts for my machine. All I get when I attempt to boot into Mac OS X is a blue screen with a pinwheel (that means it is searching for video drivers). Luckily I kept the install DVD written to my thumb drive, so right now I am attempting to create a small 20GB partition to do a temporary install of Snow Leopard. Hopefully, I will be able to reinstall the package to the old partition from the temporary installation.

Maybe Ubuntu would work if you choose to use your own EFI, just be very careful. I sure won't be trying anytime soon... If worse comes to worst, I may have to a complete hard drive wipe.

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!! Wish me luck...

    Thank you for the info.
Which version of Unbutu is this?
I also noticed that my Unbutu 9.10 x32/64 did some weird to my MBR but it resides in different hdd.

Also which version is your UD3P, v1/2? If you're aware of custom BIOS to make it so clean? No package, no extra file almost. Very vanilla.

    Regards
