Yes, that is correct.

That would work, but it worked fine for me when I installed OSX first and then Windows. Either way should work though.

Here's another question for you. The MB mentions that it is ATI crossfire ready, does that mean that it will be SLI ready as well, or can it be exclusively supportive of one and not the other?
Edit: reading more of the reviews on newegg, it doesn't sound like it supports SLI.
Do you know if an ATI graphics card would work with the rest of this set up? (I just want to be able to upgrade in the future to add a second graphics card, without replacing anything)

You are right, it doesn't support SLI.

Yes, an ATI graphics card would work, but ONLY if you are using Windows alone. As of right now, I don't know of a way to use an ATI card with Snow Leopard.

Use the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard. You'll get the best results whether you use OSX or Windows.

first off i watched the video and am very impressed that you created and completed this build at your age (whatever it may be). I'm 27 and thought I was fairly tech savvy but some of this stuff is a little over my head. So for you to have done all of this...wow!
I do have a couple of questions though. So if I were to follow your instructions exactly and complete the build-
1: Would the sound work or would i have to do some tweaking in order to get that functioning right off the bat?
2: I'd like to run a dual monitor set up of 2 HP 2159m's. Would this set up accommodate that or would i need an additional card? I've also heard that nVidia 7000 series are the best cards. Is there any truth to that?
3: Would this motherboard be able to support 8GB of RAM (or more in the future)? Would that entail simply doubling the order of the Patriot chips?
Sorry for so many questions. But a thanks for creating such an amazing resource and a really solid build! I haven't been able to find anything so complete or up to date as this.

Sound does work right off the bat, as long as you follow the exact parts I use.

You would need either a different card or an additional card. The video card has to be dual DVI in order to work with this build. The one I have listed will do dual monitor support but one of the DVI ports on the card has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. I'm not sure about the 7 series, I haven't done all that much research on the video card for this build.

This motherboard can hold up to 32GB of RAM and all you would have to do is buy 4 8GB DDR2 RAM sticks.

You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks for the awesome guide and the quick reply!

Great guide! Thanks!
I have a few questions. Sorry if they're newbie ones.
If I want to use the Yorkfield 3.0 with this guide, will I run into any issues? Rest of hardware would be the same.
I can skip the wireless part if I don't plan on using wireless, right?
Also, I am planning on a dual boot with W7, but separate HDD. I can just do a clean install of W7 on the 2nd drive right? Extra FAT32 partition for file sharing?
Thanks a lot, you've made this easy. Now I just have to scour the net for the MB.
