I have been google-ing like crazy the past couple days trying to learn as much as possible. from what i can tell (correct me if i am wrong) but setting up an efi boot partition is the safest way to install and update osx from a retail dvd. (i think using chameleon) i was wondering if anyone has been successful with this on the nb205. i would very much appreciate a tutorial if anyone has. thanks all.

Default Sticking with what I've got for now

My 1510 wireless chip is at the local post office so I should have it today. I'm going on a trip this weekend, so I'm sticking with my working 10.5.7 setup. Next week, though, I think I'll try installing Chameleon 2.0. RC2 at least to see what's what.

As for installing from the retail disk, I don't know what you do after you install. The wingzero, Essentials, and iDeben v1.3 method involves lots of tweaking and extras - some of which I'm sure are required with a retail disk install.

We may have to wait for ikramerica to try installing Snow Leopard.

Only remaining issues are intermittent battery status which seems common on any install, and mouse issue after wake.
I also plan on testing a full hibernate option which will allow deep sleep then I'll post full instructions.

The install can be accomplished via a USB stick do no DVD drive needed and you'll end up with a close to vanilla as possible NB205 that is easily upgradable.
can you give a tutorial of how to get to the 10.5.7? i know there were issues with 10.5.8, but i would like to have a starting place for a working vanilla install. thanks.

was there any progress made on making a kext for the stock wifi chip? and my sound is all distorted and mic doesnt seem to work I'm more concerned about the mic because I'm going to school and i use my computer to record lectures so if you could tell what i need to do to fix this problem it would be awesome.. i go to midi setup and it says input not supported and i switched and tried different settings in sound prefs and it didn't work. i dont if this has anything to do with but maybe, it was a pain getting this thing install osx i kept getting kernel panics after install and having to install over and over i ended up installing it 10 times so please help thank you

    Trackpad:
-I updated to 10.5.7 as described in my instructions (similar to wing's), but like others have posted, I don't have a Track Pad pane in System Preferences. So I don't have gestures or mutlitouch or scrolling. Pity, but not a dealbreaker.

Has anyone else who has the trackpad issues been able to resolve them running 10.5.7? How about upgrading to 10.5.8: were the issues fixed then? And by issues, I mean having a track pad pane and having scrolling, etc work.
Battery icon has worked for me since the first boot. I installed from USB stick, btw.

About the trackpad prefpane: the solution for 10.5.7 is in this thread somewhere. I've posted it a while ago, just read back or search for it. Basically, you just need to (re)install the prefpane.

I've posted the steps neccessary for a triple boot (XP, OSX, Ubuntu) in this thread a while ago, including a link to a more detailed explanation.

BTW, whenever your grub setup is broken, just boot ubuntu from a rescue drive (usb drive, for example) and re-install grub, takes around a minute and grub's back.

I've looked through the entire thread. I've reinstalled the PS2 kext. No go.
"Basically, you just need to (re)install the prefpane. " is virtually useless. It just doesn't mean anything. To what are you referring when you say "prefpane"? Many people won't be able to parse that. Is that the PS2 kext? If so, which one? Only the one in the Essentials package, or is it another one? Using the form, "use the OSX86Tools program to browse to and install the _____ kext" is more helpful.

I know some of this stuff is just rehashing or repeating, again, some things that are just obvious for some of you more advanced people, but it helps to restate it again in better words as a standalone topic. Just saying go back through the forum and find 'it' is very vague especially when in some cases even if you find an entry that gives some information, that message itself is part of a larger set of images that must be (somehow) parsed and reassembled by the person reading the end of the thread.

I, and I'm sure everyone else would say the same thing, appreciate that everyone posts answers and provides help and information - seriously, I'm very grateful. It's just that some of that help needs to be restated/reorganized into a better topic and posted again here in the present.

Since you wrote "I don't have a Track Pad pane in System Preferences." (yes, that is a quote), I figured you'd be able to understand 'prefpane' as a shortcut to what you said.
But, for the lazy among us, here's a link to my earlier post:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/f181/77504-22.htm#post430506, which can be found pretty easily by searching this thread for 'trackpad' or 'prefpane'.

Follow the link to the insanelymac forum, download the Trackpad.prefPane_Fix.10.5.6.pkg mentioned in the insanelymac thread, install it and reboot. Nothing advanced.

I'm afraid that you do need to put in some work to get things working - everyone here has. This thread contains more than enough information for (almost) everyone to get OSX running; you just need to take time to read / search through it.

Default Up and running, just a few minor issues

I followed the iDeneb_v1.3_wingzero-inspired_install.pdf instructions and got 10.5.7 installed successfully. Things are working great. Thank you everyone!

However, there are just a couple of issues, which if fixed would make this machine perfect:

    1) sound is really tiny, is there anyway to fix this?
    2) microphone doesn't work. So no skype. Did anyone got mic to work?
    3) webcam works great, including ichat. However it doesn't work in PhotoBooth, is there anyway to get it to work in PhotoBooth?
    4) Bluetooth works, but after sleep, it stops working, showing message "Bluetooth: Not Available". Anyone else seen this problem?

If these can be fixed, it would be nirvana.

    Thanks!

In the sound prefs put the PCM Output sound to full.
