Arrow UK iphone - TURBO SIM + voicemail problms

I thought I'd share my negatives with Turbo SIM with UK iphone users. It appears that voicemail is completely messed up on iphone using turbosim. I actually think it is not the turbo sims fault but rather the way iphone handles voicemail itself.

I am with O2 contract. If someone calls and leaves me a voicemessage, i get a missed call with the caller ID, but no alerts to new voice mail. Even no text message from 901 services to tell me I have new voice msge. The only way to find out is if you manually dial 901 and check if any new msges.

THis is a bit of a downer - but nothing still compared to the overall experience of having a fully working iphone. Even the call experience matches the feel as with the rest of the phone applications.

Should anyone know oof a workaround to above, please share.

Also, SMS works great BUT i never changed or entered any SMS centre number - does this mean it is using an AT&T SMS service number?

the iphone should be detecting the sms service center number from the sim so u should be using the O2 one.

even so if u think about it logically the AT&T sms service center will be an American number so it won;t work anyway.

but it is weird that u no longer get the txt for voice mail as that should be an independant service provided by O2...

^ I never knew SMS service centre no's and other other SMS related settings were stored on a SIM card....i always thought they were stored on the phone? Hence when you visit O2 or t-mobile or vodafone websites, it asks what phone model you have to set settings to as a text msge?

But i agree on the voice mail text issue - i would have thought o2 sends that out seperately to voice message section.

I am also in the UK but have not yet recieved my TSIM.

However, O2 Sims come written with an SMS number on it, however it may not be the one you usually use....

If I go to SMS settings on my N70 there are are 3 DIFFERENT SMS centre numbers but only one of them is in use - this can be selected manually.

As I thought it would be best to use the same SMS number I have done for 2 years I have changed the 'SIM SMS service number' to match the 'SMS service centre' number my contract currently uses.

This may be worth a try.

The iphone's Visual Voicemail won't work, I can't remember why but its something to do with the way they work with the partners e.g. Yahoo, Google & AT&T.

In the same way YouTube doesn't work unless you authenticate to the site with the PEM files that you get through a proper activation.

I have everything working on iphone through O2 / Tesco with the exception of voicemail.

It really doesn't bother me though, I can't remember the last time I used voicemail anyway :-)

    Default Same for me

Actually I just noticed the same problem today when I had a few missed calls and was surprised no messages. When I dialed my voicemail manually, it said 3 new messages - no notification of a voicemail at all.

Im on Vodafone. I wonder if its just incompatibility between the iPhone and European carriers, or if theres a plist file that needs to be modified or deleted?

@healeydave: VVM not working has nothing to do with Google, Yahoo or AT&T at this point... it is a simple thing:

AT&T uses a particular VVM server provider.
The VVM server has a particular address to be accessed on.

if Vodaphone or whatever your provider is, O2, tmo, etc, doesn't use the same Server (or a server with the same protocol), and doesnt use the same address to contact the server (assuming we dont find where to change this), then it wont work...

It is nothing to do with the partners involved (heck, if it were upto the "Partner AT&T" you wouldnt be using the phone on O2, and thats happening...)

basically, as more and more hacks are coming out for the iphone, the "barriers" begin to be more and more techinical and less commercial.

He isn't asking why visual voicemail doesn't work.

-In the UK, O2 send a text message to your phone when you have a new voicemail. He is asking why he doesnt recieve this SMS.

    Default Reset Voicemail Options

This may sound silly, but have you tried going to your voicemail account settings in 02/Vodafone using your handset and voicemail password, and re-setting the Voicemail alert options...? I sometime had problems when I upgraded my phone and things like call waiting etc would goto defaults.. Worth a Try?
