Turbo SIM fitting problems - tray would not slide in completely
hi,
after just reading for quite a while (THANKS for all the great posts .... i really learned a lot) i now registered to ask you guys the following:
i am just trying to get my turbo-sim-based-hack working (THANKS to iMaso for that great tutorial ..... a arrived at step 3 without any problem).
now i do encounter a weird problem:
i carefully cut my original sims and they perfectly match the shape of the turbo, so everything should be ready to go.
BUT: the tray with both the sim + the turbo-sim in it would not completely fit into the slot. it slides in (quite) smoothly until app. 1mm before it gets completely level with the phone. then there is a really strong resistance, which i do not dare to overpower to force it in really hard.
anyone got experience with this and give me a hint ?
shall i just go for it or might i damage the (quite fragile) turbo .... or is there something else i am missing ?
thx for your help

Hi ringthebell,
I had similar problems with mine - the worst bit was trying to get it started off into the slot by holding down the turbosim against the sim card so that it's flat enough to go in the slot. I shaved off a bit more of the sim card plastic so the turbo sim has lots of room to manouvre but it didn't make much difference. I found after a couple of slides to 3/4 way in that it moved easier. You do have to keep the alignment spot on flush with the sim or you'l have problems sliding it in. In the end I pushed with reasonable force to get the last bit of the sim tray into the phone. It did take a bit of the paint off the back of the turbo sim and took 3 attempts before it recognised the sim card - presumably due to contact mis-alignment.
Been working perfectly since though

Just be more generous in the cutting
I noticed that I had to cut all the way to the actual SIM chip (within <1mm) and also be more generous on the other direction as well, this will allow for better alignment inside the SIM tray and I think I noticed a similar thing until I did cut a tick more and then the SIM+TurboSIM fit very smoothly (no obstacle felt in inserting the tray to the phone)

thx for the quick replies.
let me ask for some clarifications .... my english is not that good (coming from austria - mountains/no roos ;-)
@rayloveday:
you shaved off a bit more on the sim .... where exactly?
did you make it *flatter* by shaving a bit off all over the backside, or did you make the 9x10 rectangle a bit bigger ?
the size of that rectangle seems not to be the problem: the turbo is absolutely flush with the sim (no protuberance - the underlying sim is not to be seen)
@toruonu:
maybe a (very) stupid question, but just to make clear: cutting all the way to the actual sim chip (within <1mm) means: close TO the sim, but not INTO it .... because i am already REALLY close to the sim .... the cut nearly touches the golden metal of the sim (mine is still functioning .. i tried).
thx again

Yeah, you just make the 9x10 rectangle a tick larger, as it's anyway quite close to the SIM already you can't extend it that much closer to the SIM anyway (you indeed cut it so that it nearly touches the golden metal, but not cut into it (though I actually accidentally did cut a tick off the golden connector, but it still worked, but it wasn't necessary to go that far)). What I found is that cutting a bit more on the other direction did help a lot more, so add another 1mm cut to it and the TurboSIM should be feeling a lot more comfortable in the SIM tray.

where exactl do you think we should do this extra cut of 1mm ???
My turbo sim is soon to come so held might be useful because cutting seems to be the hardest part isnt it?

Well if you hold the SIM card upright with the slightly cut corner up (all SIM-s have one corner different than the others). Then you cut according to the french PDF instructions which have the schematic of the cutting around 9mm from the left (or right, depending, which way you face the SIM) and 10mm from the top, leaving the different shaped corner and cutting away the other. So what I found is that while cutting close to the SIM chip, you really have to cut close to it and also one should cut closer to the folded corner side too.
So basically long story short I'd say 10x10mm cut instead of 10x9mm cut is what made it easier, but the best to do is just do the 10x9 cut according to the instructions and then start slightly shaving off additional fractions of mm of the SIM until you have a nice fit in the SIM tray (my turbosim+sim slid into the phone very smoothly when done right in the end).
And I do recommend getting something very sharp to do the cutting, then you can be more precise. I myself used scalpels (medical ones, one of my relatives works in a hospital so she got me a few
)

i had some problems too. when i pushed the part of the tray that wouldn't close forward, towards the screen and then down it went in nicely.

great ..... i did it !
THX !
a combination of toruonu's and rickrandom's advice helped in the end:
- cutting it really close to the contacts + extend the 9mm to 10
plus
- pushing the tray a bit forward not only into the iphone
now i'm ready for the next step (god ..... my first acquaintance with terminal ...)
wish me luck, guys.

I just get my iphone I bought on ebay.
I have the same problem as you guys had.
Firstly it was not easy to get out the tray without anything in it.
Now with the turbo sim and my tmobile sim in it, I cant even take out the tray :-(
The thing is that I have "invalid sim" and "sim failure"
I want to die
HELP !!!
