    Settings -> General -> Network -> EDGE

    On the APN field type "internet" (just the word)
    Leave all other field blank.

    That's it it works now (turn WIFI off for trial as WIFI as priority over EDGE).
    Orange has GPRS, of course - but they don't have EDGE. Surfing on the iPhone is painfully slow on the Orange network.

    Can you let me know why the EDGE icon is always there and my internet speeds are not that far off my old 3G SE P1?

    The EDGE icon is always there when GPRS is enabled. The question is: why is your UMTS speed so slow? Orange Switzerland DOES NOT HAVE EDGE. If you don't believe me, just call tech support and have it confirmed.

    Also make sure you're not on Orange France - they do have EDGE - but it's going to cost you a shitload of money for roaming.
