On my side the older version of the sim programmer was sent to me so as such I am not able to test the updated version of Universal Sim.

Currently testing iPhone 3G on O2 Network Prepaid with StealthSim. Just 2G calls and SMS, because I do not have a data plan yet. One step at a time. So far after two days reasonable working performance at this level. Not too much incoming and outgoing call tests yet, but what there is seems to be okay.

For the first day or so I have kept the phone mostly off the network in Airplane mode. Now I will try leaving it on the O2 network 24/7 and see what happens.

EDGE testing will commence hopefully sometime next week when I am in Malaysia. Also perhaps 3G [Maxis/ Celcom].

As mentioned previously I am proceeding cautiously. Currently with stock 2.0 firmware. 2.0.1 etc baseband not tested yet.

If I lose signal with StealthSim (the manufacturer mentions that I won't), then I may consider upgrading to 2.0.1 which means new baseband firmware which the Dev Team actually does not recommend.

PLEASE NOTE WHEN TRYING THESE SOLUTIONS WITH IPHONE 3G THINK ABOUT THE SIM TRAY. JUST USE A SIMPLE BIT OF TAPE, IS MY OPINION. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS INFORMATION AND THAT BY DECO AND ZF_ ETC

This means, that you have a bit of sticky tape on the top part of the sim tray with the sim and sim solution there. This bit of sticky tape sticks out when you put in the sim tray, so that when you pull on the tape the whole tray with the sim and the sim solution joined together, etc, comes out smoothly. This is because the top part of the sim tray is a smooth surface once you put the tape, so it comes out smoothly.

I experienced a while back when first trying with Turbo SIM the simtray got jammed. However, it is possible to open the iPhone 3G to then free the SIM part. If this happens you should carefully search online for how to open the iPhone 3G. It is actually a bit tricky.

I have seen on modmyiphone forums people got caught out with this.

Mojito are you testing Universal SIM right now?

After dumping the baseband logs, I found two variables fLastKnownServingPlmn and fHomePlmn which are quite self-explanatory. The *sim I am testing out required me to put it into an ordinary phone and manually select my network thus writing my network's MCC/MNC to fLastKnownServingPlmn. The *sim fakes fHomePlmn to 101.

The function of data roaming is to enable data in networks other than your home network, so if the home network is faked to 101, which the network you use is impossible to be, data roaming must be enabled to turn on data.

    Just sharing my opinion

Yes, if you could update us on Universal SIM (the new method) that would be great.

Just let us know what you see from the baseband logs, etc. Doesn't have to be the full details of the technique, perhaps start off with whether it is a clearly different technique. :hack:

It's okay I may contact you when I am in Asia in a few days time... Right now I am busy
testing with StealthSIM which worked right out of the box so far...
I have to do some more testing with it because so far it is working on basic 2g SMS/calls ...
4 days of testing so far. Hopefully some EDGE testing over the weekend.

I am travelling out of the UK in a few days time so I don't have time to
download drivers, find another sim to flash, put in iPhone etc. Sorry but
because StealthSIM came about the same time as Universal SIM, and StealthSIM
worked so far out of the box, StealthSIM has priority at this moment.

Mojito11, do update us on Universal SIM. Mojito11 is not one of the three
original testers on this thread, however I feel we should hear from his feedback.

Mojito11 with RebelSIM the signal may drop after a few days? I have not
tested RebelSIM. Let us know how it goes.

Malaysian network testing will commence in a few days time. I need to get
prepaid 3G SIM (Maxis/Hotlink) and also from Celcom/Xpax.

Here's my experience with RebelSIM with a USIM(3G) card. It caught 2G signal on my network for about 30+ hours before I accidently broke it trying to "revive" it after my Singtel test (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...t=49417&page=2) and putting it in my SE's tight SIM tray. It requires you to put it in an so_called_ordinary phone to acquire signal prior to insertion to iPhone. Signal died once sometime after 10 hours and came back after reboot. While it has signal with carrier, 2G calls in/out work. SMS in/out work. GPRS popped up after a few hours after initialization (however was at same location the whole time). Broke it so am not able to do extensive testing. On to Universal SIM now.

Okay cool. So let's see with Universal SIM how long it lasts. Do check if it is the v500 software etc as the manufacturer recommends.
