your phone will only work with the turbosim/sim combination!
Yes, *please*: I can't find two tutorials with *identical* steps nor two pointing to the same needed files. There's still a lot of confusion between 1.1.2 OTB and "updated to". Most (all?) of the tutorials are written by people stating "I haven't tryed this: I'm only putting things together (or translating)"!
Eg: should SSH be installed from jailbreak.jar or, as suggested elsewhere, from other sources? And "Turbo Cable Utils", are they needed too? Applesaft: there are, out there, at least three different versions. What exactly is needed: "applesaft.trb" only or the complete folder?
Also the tutorial, here on Hackintosh, has grown 20+ pages long and is constantly changing!
Is there anyone who *actually* did it on an OTB 1.1.2 willing to write down an *idiot like me*-proof tutorial, please?
Every single phone needs a SIM+TurboSIM to connect to carrier so... ;)Quote:

i did an unlock 1 week ago. with this tutorial: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17560
the other one is VERY detailed.
i did not need the details, because i read and read and read 1 week before i got my iphone to get into it.
there are just a few basic things to understand. maybe people are too lazy to read a thread of 20 pages maybe it is just not explained clearly what turbosim does in all the tutorials.
so after i read and read and read 1 whole week i knew this:
1.1.2 can't be jailbroken at once.
you need to downgrade to 1.1.1 to do so.
with 1.1.1 you can jailbreak and install oktoprep.
oktoprep modifies files that are unaltered when upgrading to 1.1.2 so that 1.1.2 can be jailbroken.
when 1.1.2 is finally jailbroken you need to be able to perform basic unix commands and you need an ssh connection to access the file system. so install it via installer.
after that i followed the above mentioned tutorial which is really easy.
you copy the turbo tools including applesaft to a folder on the iphone. i chose the package from the above mentioned very easy tutorial. they are just command sets to program the turbo sim. the iphone is your programming hardware. the interface. the sim-card reader/writer. once programmed you can get rid of the files.
to program the sim you need to read information from the original att sim card and put it onto turbosim: the IMSI number.
and you need to put applesaft program on the turbosim.
to do so the commcenter of the phone has to be disabled, and after reading out the imsi it has to be reenabled.
this is all done with the few unix commands.
after that you have all the needed information of the att sim and the necessary software to deliver that information to the iphone on your turbosim.
then you just put your own sim in combination with the turbosim into the phone. you can access your applesaft program through settings sim tools and then you just set it.
now the applesaft just delivers the information stored on the turbosim to the iphone, so that it takes your own sim for an original att sim. therefore applesaft uses a known exploit in the actual firmware. of course this fake information is not delivered to your network. just to your iphone...
if apple closes this exploit sometime with an upgrade, a new one has to be found and a new applesaft program needs to be written and your turbosim needs to be programmed with it once again...
i hope that this information helps understanding the whole method and that my information delivered is all correct that far. please correct me if i am wrong in some points...!
i don't think that i am especially clever but, but why are people so quickly impressed of several threads concerning the same topic in a forum. it is chaotic! several hundred persons want the same thing and go different ways and everybody needs information and everybody delivers some.... is it so hard to take some time and read to find out what is really going on??? and then maybe ask some questions with just a little bit understanding of the topic???? you just want others to do the work for you. if you don't have the time to read and learn yourself, you should go the official way and buy an iphone with contract!
cheers!
no: it isn't and that's what I did. But... take a look at those two tutorials here on Hackintosh: one says you *must* program the TurboSIM in 1.1.1 the other says it's safest doing it on 1.1.2.
Computers are not my job: I just use them for my needs when and *if* they are needed (that's why... I opted for Macs ;-). I will only unlock ONE iPhone: the one I will use so... for me it's a one shot game!
And what I found in all those threads is... people fighting about what is right and what isn't! If I had enough knowledge, as all those *fighters* seem to have, I wouldn't be here asking for the right method, don't you think so?
... sorry: I thought the purpose of forums like this one was sharing knowledge and helping others but... seems main purpose is fighting to be the smartest!Quote:

I've been patiently waiting a full year now (and tryed, in the while, to *fool myself* with a *shitty* SEw950i) but... still no iPhones here (Italy) nor an announce on their future avalaibility. After seriously considering buying an *officially unlocked* one in France... I finally opted for an US one + TurboSIM: I don't need UMTS nor a 5MPx... *so called* "camera" (as rumors says) but, honestly... 750€ for a quadband GSM... :(Quote:

But don't worry: my next (third generation ;-) iPhone will be for shure an officially unlocked one so I won't need to bother you anymore! ;)
Thanks for explaining, once more, the "theory behind" wich, unfortunately, is the only thing everyone agrees on! :p

there is a lot knowledge arounfd here right. and that is the thing you can use. but there will be the time, the time the unlock arrives for you, when you have to make a decision for yourself. a decision that would be turbo programming with 1.1.1 or with 1.1.2. i read that you can't use your phone with 1.1.1 and TS properly so i found this guide i mentioned above quite logical. why should i program my turbosim with a firmware that won't work later with it???? so once again: use this guide:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17560
you will be fine!
Hi,
i used this tutorial
http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17738
i tried to use the other ones but sometimes my head hurt so it never went right.
I agree with what you all say, but in reality there are a lot of people who still are unsure. Myself included.
But if at first you dont sucessed keep trying. You will get there. The above tut is a little longer then they one mentioned above but i found it easier to use, but each to there own mate
Hope it helps
