In such a hypothetical situation... assuming apple releases a future update 1.1.3....
Would turbosim be worse off than anysim/software unlock or what?
Would turbosim phones have the risk of being bricked and re-locked?

Wait,
I will go to my oracle and, among others, i will also ask that.
Anything else that you want me to ask her ? end of the world ? lotto numbers ?
Of course i know you're talking about when they update the iPhone (you said so in the thread title...)
if they want to patch the TurboSIM method, however, they'll need to update SIM cards so they can't be patched or otherwise spoofed (ie making the iPhone think it's looking at an AT&T when it's really looking at a T-Mobile). There are different versions of SIM cards (V1,2,3) all upgrades of the ones before. A future version of SIM card would have to make it much more difficult for the TurboSIM to make another SIM card look like it. I'm pretty sure Apple can't do that with an update to the software (aka 1.1.3) because there isn't a check method at the hardware level.
Does this make sense?
The bug exploited by the TurboSIM can be patched very easily in a future baseband version. I'm even very surprised that it has not been patched yet.
That's precisely why I released a new version of AppleSaft - just to check if the bug has been fixed in the baseband or not. It does nothing more and is not 1.1.2 specific at all. The old AppleSaft is still working perfectly.
So enjoy it while it lasts, and have users who installed the new AppleSaft version report their findings when a new baseband firmware comes out before you flash it to your device ... here's how you'll be able to validate that the TurboSIM is still working when a new version comes out
- Install the AppleSaft including this check
- Upgrade
- Downgrade the firmware to a known working state for you (whatever version ... you can use 1.0.2 just to be sure)
- Go to the "Exploitable" menu in AppleSaft - if you see "ok", the bug has not been patched. If you see "game over", time to put your TurboSIM on a nice silver chain and turn it into a pretty necklace :)
Thx a million, Zf_
I am using Applesaft since the early days, saw your post and the software (exploit check) when you posted it, thx for both. I saw zillions of posts coming up telling to use the new applesaft - people dont read...
Hope someone pops this post sticky here so the question does not pop up again and again. Hope Apple leaves it as is so we can use Turbosim a little longer...
have a good one

NO ONE CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE. Who knows wat would happen to all these unlocking stuffs each time a new firmware comes out.
hi, just a few basic questions to understand turbosim. i did not find these clearly discussed yet...
i understood the unlock as following and please correct me if i got it completely wrong!
i insert turbosim with original at&t (or o2 or t-mobile card) delivered with the phone into it.
i run the application in terminal that reads out specific SIM card information of the original at&t SIM and writes it to the turbosim chip.
then i insert the SIM Card i want to use with the phone with the turbosim and run the previously installed applesaft app. i understand it like this app now checks the information my SIM card delivers to the phone and replaces it with the needed information of the original at&t SIM which is now on the tubosim.
a baseband bug in the actual firmware versions is used by applesaft to let iphone understand the turbosim/SIM combination properly as its working original at&t SIM card.
so if this would be basically right my own SIM card will not be changed in any way or is there anything written or changed on it?
i understand too, that this method is absolutely reversible with a software restore of the iphone.
the turbosim can be programmed as often as i want to with any kind of SIM card.
thank you for answering and helping me understand the unlocking method!
cheers!
