Can't select carrier while in roaming

Hi all.

Here's my scenario:
- iPhone 1.1.2 OOB properly activated
- TurboSIM
- Using AT&T network as I am on NY
- I am not from US, so I am here in roaming profile

SMS and voice services are working flawless. However my carrier has no agreement with AT&T, so I can't get EDGE working while on AT&T (I got signal but there is no data transferred).

Then, I see i can select T-Mobile. Agreement with them are temporary disabled :/ (I know, my carrier sucks).

Fortunately, I have some more choices, like Cingular, which works on my original mobile (NOT the iPhone).

Tale told, in order to select Cingular on iPhone Carrier list, i need to do a change on my SIM apps card (i think is to set a different GSM frequency), and as soon as I change it, iPhone pops the message "You must use an approved SIM card to use this phone" and I can't get anymore onto SIM apps menu and signal instantly disappears.

I restart the phone (normal way) and i am back to AT&T. Go check and, guess what, no changes done on my SIM.

So, what I need to do is, as I am already in roaming, I would like to select another carrier which is NOT AT&T, but I can't.

Anyone?

Looks like a weird case of refresh that should reset the counter but fails to do so. I'll see if I can come up with an idea :)

Can't think of an automatic way to do it, so try to reflash this version http://dl.free.fr/j67v9txZ9/applesaft-test-reset1.zip then just before selecting your Sim App go into Applesaft and select the new menu "Reset". Let's see what happens ...

It allowed me to select option and kept it in memory until I restarted my phone, then it restored back to original one.

At least, it didnt complained anymore about wrong SIM.

Thanks for the update file. It is still not working what i would, but thats a good start.

ok. So what's the problem exactly ? You can only roam to Cingular until you reboot, or you cannot roam to Cingular at all ? What's the difference with the regular behaviour on another phone ?

Could you also describe the exact menu titles of your Sim Toolkit application ? Could ring a bell perhaps.

Additional idea : try to go into flight mode and back after calling your switching application.

My problem is, to have EDGE working with my carrier, i MUST use Cingular. However, i can't find Cingular on my iPhone. So, i can't roam to Cingular at all.

Differences on the phones? That old one is not quad-band, its tri-band only. On it, AT&T is not even show as a carrier, i got Cingular and T-Mobile. On iPhone, i got AT&T and T-Mobile.

Title for my SIM Toolkit Application is "Brazil/Spain" or "Other Countries". Right now I'm stucked on Brazil/Spain, and changing to Other Countries still does not make me able to select Cingular as a Carrier.

So now i did the following steps: Apple Saft -> Reset. My Sim Toolkit -> Other Countries. Airplane mode on. Airplane mode off. Guess which carrier got displayed? AT&T :/

Will try to find out how/where can i find which GSM frequency I am using (ie, 800/900/1800/1900MHz). And thanks again for your help.

Did some more tests in here. When i go to airplane mode, changed info on SIM app is restored to original value.

Also, from what i'd found while Googling around is, iPhone only works in US on AT&T/T-Mobile networks, no matter what you do :/
