Hi
At the moment you can't unlock the 02.30 baseband with any software method, only the 02.28 baseband works with yellowsn0w.
One option worth looking into is to see if you have the 5.08 bootloader. If you do you can downgrade the baseband to 02.28 & use yellowsn0w to unlock.
If you're not sure what bootloader you have open Cydia and find an app called Fuzzyband, install/run it and it will show you the bootloader version.

Edit:
If its was stolen & sold to unknowingly it may be IMEI blocked by the carrier

I wouldn't automatically assume its been block just because you *sim doesn't work as most the *Sim are unreliable & that could be problem.
Best thing to do is ask some members in the Turbo-, Supersim and Simcloning Solution - Hackint0sh section about the rebelsim card you're trying to use.

Which country are you in, which network is the phone locked to and which network are you trying to use the phone with? In my experience Rebel are the last piggyBack SIM I would ever buy again, their CS was awful! Different piggyback SIMs work with different degrees of success on different networks. None are perfect.

mate, if it turns out that your phone has been sold to you as stolen, i am in the same boat and furious! i have a 16 gig white iphone and the IMEI has been blocked on all australian networks. if you find out that yours has been imei blocked would you swap? that would mean they would both worked. mine is locked to Optus (a network here), but can be jailbroken etc.
let me know mate.

the modelnumber is: mbk500
well i hope it works, with a new unlock from the devteam
can i change the imei? if yes...how?
