Agree on that, totally.
Plus one more - never raeding before hitting buttons:

The forum is full of threads telling ppl that the baseband for 3G is new in fw 2.2. No way to downgrade it on a 3G. Plus information from the Dev Team in their blog here
Sir, step away from the keyboard.
So, as anticipated our friends the misfits have recently released the long awaited 2.2 update. We can confirm that this update SHOULD NOT be applied using iTunes if you want the chance of a soft-unlock in the near future.
The 2.2 firmware for 3G contains a baseband updater for the 3G iPhone...
So, to summarize: Not only game over for *sim solutions. After upgrading the chance of using a software unlock that is in the works by the Dev Team is gone.
just my 2 cent

I'm sick of reading posts like this. there is no other unlock at ALL. There is not a single other unlock.. so until that happens sim proxys are all we got. A lot of us are pretty happy with our sim proxys at the moment because there is no other solution. Stop bagging on the only thing we got the dev team has been incredibly slow unlocking the 3g (sorry guys love you but its true) IPSF unlocked the iphone 2g iphone 3 months. We are now close to December and no unlock... so until that unlock happens lets try and find a way to keep the other unlocks alive so we can all enjoy our iphones.

I stand behind you 100% mongoose, rep
there is NO other way to use our locked iPhones abroad, besides sim-unlocking solutions... so better to have THAT than nothing.
about the 2.2 firmware update, if you don't update to 2.2 then you can stay on 2.1 for now until winpwn works to create a 2.2 firmware customized without the baseband update.... easy cheesy

despite all the warning... some people still go ahead and try... i admire their bravery... well, at least we know for sure it wont work
