Yes, you can. Which is what I've done. I have my phone updated to the latest firmware and it is jailbroken, ativated and SSH would still work, if I bothered to install it - since I used iBrickr (and the iphoneinterface.exe) to copy files I haven't bothered with SSH ... yet!

Day 3 of NO problems, my iPhone runs perfectly. No more issues.
Yesterday I had to turn it off twice because I needed to use my E90 for some business related stuff and it uses the same number (Vodafone Tricard).

Turning the iPhone off and on again didn't change anything, the TurboSIM works with the Vodafone Germany SIM and no signal drops, no SIM messges, whatever anymore. I'm so happy now, especially since I can take my iPhone with me during my vacation next week.

Everything can still be installed, SSH, etc. but I wouldn't do it unless you really need it. The TurboSIM works with almost any activated iPhone and SIM, you don't need to modify it.
I would only be careful with further firmware updates from Apple, especially when more details of the hardware unlock will be available and of course after a possible software unlock solution. Apple won't stay still, they will develop countermeasures and it is very likely that it will happen through a firmware update.
The current FW 1.0.2 offers a couple of bugfixes and it seems to work with almost all "hacks", so there isn't really a reason not to update to it.

Didnīt do it for me - activated a german vodafone sim using appfelsaft on monday. worked well, did some other hacks (youtube, etc.) th esame day. everything worked fine for 4 days - no issues at all. then this morning iīm having exactly the same problems you were decribing. seemingly just out of nowhere.

Did a full restore and updated to firmware 1.02 and reactivated with iNdependence.
Tubo-Sim still works on my virgin 1.02 but I still have the exact same issues.

The one thing i did using iNdependence was installing ssh. I will go through the process again without doing that, but i fear that your luck with the update was just a fluke.
as i said: mine also seemed to work well for a couple of days.

    Anyone with a similar experiance?

I'm going crazy here. I followed all the steps in the TurboSim tutorial and got no errors up until I install the SIM. I basically get no signal but can see my number. Can't get it to pick a network either. The difference is I first installed 1.0.2 then followed the tutorial (not the other way around which apply 1.0.2 after youhave turbosim working). I think what is happening is I think there maybe a problem applying hacks to a virgin phone that has 1.0.2 installed on it.

I even restored the phone and tried iActivator and would no longer work! So I think Apple did something to stop hacks with on virgin phones with 1.0.2.

After making the TurboSIM work, after making a full recovery to FW 1.0.2 and after re-activating the phone, you shouldn't do ANYTHING more, no SSH, nothing. Because it is very likely that this stuff actually caused the problems.

I have (had, sold one) two iPhones, I applied the same method on both (TurboSIM, Applesaft, full recovery to FW 1.0.2, re-activation) and they still work with Vodafone Germany SIMs without any call drops, no service messages, etc. Just perfect. It may be luck only but it works on two iPhones, so I guess it isn't.

You should mention the version of the SIM card you're using (n2, n3, N3, etc.) because some T-Mobile Germany SIM cards don't work with the TurboSIM method.

Happy to hear that. I suppose you didn't install any SSH, etc. anymore?

A little sidenote: day 4 of trouble-free iPhone with TurboSIM and Vodafone SIM. Today I started some sort of craziness at a car cleaning facility over here.
When my iPhone rang and I replied, a crowd of several people gathered around me and wanted to know everything about the iPhone.
All of them were surprised that the iPhone is offered with a SIM lock only and when I told them that T-Mobile Germany will bring the iPhone to Germany end of this year,
most of them were very happy about it. After mentioning the possible price tag for a iPhone with contract, the faces weren't that happy anymore but I guess
that the iPhone will have a similar success in Germany like it had in the US and to be honest, I never thought that.
