I think he's using the HongKong 3G iphone (officially unlock), so with *sim or without *sim... the phone will still have signal...
Just like u put a *sim onto ur software unlocked iphone... I will still worked...

Disclaimer: I am not a reseller nor do i plan to resell this SIM solution here. Just posting results of my tests for everyone's information.

SIM solution: GeveySIM
OTB: iPhone 3G 16GB AT&T Locked
Local Network: Globe Telecom

Tests:
CallOut: Working
CallIn: Working
SMSOut: Working
SMSIn: Working
GPS: Working
WiFi: Working
3G/EDGE/GPRS Data: Not working

Notes:
Hard to insert. Hard to remove.
Turning ON 3G Switch causes CallOut and SMSOut to fail.
Turning Off 3G Switch causes phone functions to work again.

Reliability:
Did not loose signal after 5/7/12 hours. Will test further.

Temporary Verdict:
Useful to enable call and text and GPS on your 3G iPhone hence turning it from an iPod Touch to an iPhone GPS. Better than no phone functions on your iPhone 3G.
Not the solution we are looking for since no carrier data network.
