getting caught?
well, heres the thing...im very tempted to do the SuperSim method to unlock my iphone...but i've read that it is illegal to do so in the US...
my question is how can my service provider catch me? i mean, its not like im stealing from them since im paying them. and also, is it possible for them to even catch me?
like, sassha in his thread said " Warning! Proceed at your own risk! Your provider can block your subscription!"
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...light=supersim
how can they even find out i am using this method?
sorry if this has already been discussed but found nothing in search. try not to flame me if it has

you should just buy an xsim thats guaranteed to work in your country

The detection can occur when the operator tries to update your card Over The Air through SMS - since your clone does not have the good administration keys, this will raise a flag in their provisioning system.
Action taken on such errors or not is operator dependant

thanks rep+.....by any chance, do you know how frequently they update your sim card?
and has anyone ever been caught?

Really operator dependant ... but I'd say the more you travel (roam) the more updates you'll likely get

Don't scare the man.....
you can always choose to "accept" or "decline" said updates. Your provider cannot detect the (x)Sim if you do not accept their updates.
That said.... these updates are never (rarely ever) major or necessary, and if you inquire about one that "Absolutely Must Be Updated"...... you can always buy a new sim card, update it, and then reinsert it in your iPhone (with xSim). Most Major US operators will sell you the new sim for $20-$40.
Likelihood of you getting caught for your Sim is less than the liklihood of you getting caught for "Pirated Music" on your computer. (speculative).
To add more info: if you are really paranoid.... go to your operator's website and make sure you have the latest sim updates. If the sim card is relatively new.... you should already. If you travel outside the country a lot.... they may send you a "Support Update" to make sure you are receiving coverage in the other countries.
Again, International / Roaming Covereage is an update you could find on the website before loading the (x)Sim.
