    Wink Compatible sim reader/programmer list

I notice a number of people are asking which usb reader/writer/programmer to get. In order to save your time and starting up new threads, I would like to create a list showing the hardware that WORKS...

I have used the following hardware and all have tested to work with Woron (For SIM-EMU only Infinity and Tivald are tested to work 100%):

reader - only read, programmer - read and write

    Dekart SIM reader (DK38T) - PC/SC compatible - USB
    ACS SIM reader (ACR38T) - PC/SC compatible - USB
    ACS SIM reader (ACR100C) - PC/SC compatible - USB
Infinity USB unlimited reader/programmer - Pheonix compatible - USB or virtual com
TiVald Universal SIM Interface Pro programmer - Pheonix compatible - USB or virtual com
KC5361 Smart Card Programmer (kit only - need assembly) - Phenoix compatible - serial (recommended by wombat)

If you have tried other hardware that is not listed here please let me know the name and model of the hardware, and software that works. I am more than happy to add yours to the list.

    Hey ozbimmer!

Thanks a lot for the post - it is what I was looking for. However, I am a bit confused by it. You say that you have listed hardware that will work with both Woronscan and Sim-Emu, but later you say that "reader" means read only.

    Does this mean that these:

    Dekart SIM reader (DK38T) - PC/SC compatible - USB
    ACS SIM reader (ACR38T) - PC/SC compatible - USB
    ACS SIM reader (ACR100C) - PC/SC compatible - USB

will only read? So they can get your KI, but they WILL NOT WRITE to a silvercard, right?

I just want to clear this up, because I have access to PC/SC readers like above, here in North America, but I don't want to order one if they will not write to a silver card like I need!

    Thanks a lot.

I brought a cheap Chinese reader/writer from eBay, and it seems to work fine (although I haven't yet written with it). Firstly, I had port virtualisation software included free with it (yes, I'll post a link soon), and after installing that, I gave it a test try.

Using WoronScan, it worked perfectly using COM 3, and selecting 6.(something)mhz. Although, it corrected it to read at 14400 instead of 16k something.

Using SIM EMU, it at first didn't do anything (no device error). I went to the options menu and selected COM 3 port (which is the virtualised port), and it then gave me the 'this isn't a sim emu card' error, the same as my borrowed Jaycar smart card writer.

The Jaycar programmer I borrowed though is awesome. It's Phoenix compatible, and this particular one used to be used to rewrite pay tv cards. Yarr.

The Sim Max brand blank sim card I received with the Chinese reader/writer appears to be rubbish, but the reader/writer itself shows promise. By memory, it cost me about $15 - not a big investment even if all you do is throw it away later, or sell it for $1 at a pawn store.

I've ordered a Silver Sim card, and when it arrives, I'll be programming it using the Jaycar Phoenix-compatible programmer - but only because I know it will work perfectly. After I record a success, I'll be erasing the silvercard and trying out the el cheapo Chinese reader/writer and letting you all know. So far though, it looks like it might work.

    Cheers

Ok, update with the cheap Chinese SIM MAX reader/writer.

Using a program called Sim Easy (http://w13.easy-share.com/2588371.html), I was able to use my crappy Chinese reader/writer via USB (after installing the SIM MAX utilities which came with it), and I was then able to connect to the card, then select 'Magic Sim'.

Using the blue SIM MAX card which came with it, I am able to enter up to 12 accounts with SMSC (sms carrier gateway - use local number, no country code), IMSI, KI and ICCID.

I entered my Telstra details and disconnected the card and bam - working cloned card.

This was of course in my normal old LG phone, having entered only my Telstra IMSI, ICCID, and KI.

I tried entering in my Telstra details on line 1, then my AT&T IMSI on line 2, but it just favoured the AT&T details and refused to connect to the network.

I successfully made a card which contains my Telstra ICCID, and KI with the AT&T IMSI on it, but I haven't iASign'd my iPhone for it, and I wanted to check with a couple of people the kind of risk associated with replacing my IMSI like that.

So, it turns out that dodgy cheap Chinese reader with freebie card isn't so useless after all

wombat: so haven't actually use the mod sim on your iphone that is jailbreaked/iphoneinterfaced using AT&T ICCID? btw, not sure why you put Telstra on 1 and AT&T on 2, it's not going to work like that. you need Vlad SIM-EMU Flash and EEPROM files (Telstra on 1, AT&T on 0)

blizzard: I can only confirm that the Dekart and ACS readers CAN read using Woron and SIM-EMU but defintely not write.

    ozbimmer,

i've jailbreaked it, iphoneinterfaced it, replaced the keys etc, and paired the newly created sim with iasign. i then used good old iphone tool to get a successful activation. so yes, i've done all that. with regards to putting at&t on 0, there is no zero option in the program i used. because i don't have any silver sims here yet (they're in transit), i figured i'd play around with the chinese thing for fun. i used some third party software with it called sim easy which allows me to clone sim cards, swap around imsi, ki, iccid, etc.

i can't load the vlad files in this program, i just mucked around with it for fun.

when my silvercards arrive on monday, i'll just use sim emu and do it properly, but in the meantime, i'm just messing around with the cheapie writer to see what i can do with it.

    cheers.

    Hi Guys,
Ok, I bought the ACR38T SIM reader and Silvercard from Jaycar.
I successfully extracted the IMSI from the AT&T SIM, and the IMSI, ICCID And KI from my NEW pre-paid Telstra SIM.

However, I am now stuck because the SIM reader simply will not detect the silvercard.
Each time I put the silvercard in, the light quickly flashes and then SIM-EMU says "Insert a GSM or SIM-EMU card".
However, when I put in a regular SIM, the SIM reader detects it instantly and the light stays on.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this???

check the configure tab, and make sure you have it set to the correct com port and frequency. should be com 2 by memory? and 6000000hz? sounds right anyway.
