I am going to the US soon and was thinking of buying an iphone 3G to use with a turbosim in a country not supported by apple. Since the price is bothering me can I use my current sim card with the turbosim in it without activating the phone or will it still say "please plug into itunes and activate". Do I have to pay At&t?

so does his mean I can activate my iphone 3G with winpwn or different?

You can use Qpwn or Wpwn. I always use Qpwn.
Just make sure Do Not upgrade your firmware to 2.2/ from iTunes!!Never!( at least for about 3-6 months)

I have an 3G v2.2 and baseband 2.28

I didn't activate the phone with itunes and the original swisscom sim yet.

is their everywhere a discussion about the activation process? because i have read that not the iphones are netlocked but the IMEI is in a list of netlocked phones. if it is possible to send a IMEI from a open phone while the activation the iphone should be opend? shouldn't it? Or if its possible to simulate the activation-server, we could activate the phone as opend... without netlock. maybe its more simply as hack the baseband 2.28?

I think you can Jailbreak it only. Go to the section: iphone, 3G
There are couple options to do that (Qpwn 2.2 if Im not wrong)
About unlocking, don't buy any Sim solution yet.
I have 3G with 2.2 and 228 too, I use ATT prepaid card.
If you get the sim solution 2.2/228 for free,that is okay.

Maybe you can put it under the "iphone, 3G, General section"
Since you don't mind about the Sim solution(there is no "good" solution anyway for the 2.2/228)
And you can ask specifically about the activation things.(not about sim)
