    Yes you must activate it (jailbreak involved as well), instructions can be found anywhere! :iphone:

    In order to unlock any phone, including your iPhone 3gs, you must jailbreak the phone first. There are jailbreaking tools of all kinds available on the internet. It is very important that you do your research on which jailbreaking tool to use. Choosing the wrong one can lead to negatively impacting the functionality of your iphone or existing unlocked iPhone 3GS.
