    Not quite "costs nothing".

I actually have a MagicSIM 16th as well as a 15th on my way, however, quoting what I already wrote here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...&postcount=156

Additionally, I don't know of any other software that (allegedly!) will let you write just the IMSI and ICCID values and not the Ki to a card. Perhaps CAS Studio will, but then again, people will have to invest in a Duolabs Dynamite Plus ( http://www.duolabs.com/dynamiteplus.html ) in order to reproduce BigBuckz's experiment.

If people are willing to bounty... I'm willing to try. I don't have much use for the writer anyway, so perhaps if someone points to someone else that's provably reliable and willing to cut his SIMs to try it out, I'm probably in

So there. I could easily try to reproduce what BigBuckz allegedly did, but I lack the equipment. I have 90% confidence that we won't find a software that allows writing just ICCID and IMSI and works with any ordinary USB SIM reader. If someone else has the equipment, there's hope. If someone provably reliable is willing to buy the equipment but would love to get some financial help from the community, I'm willing to bounty too. If the SuperSIM guys (Vladimir_CDI, ozbimmer) would like to try this method as well, I'd happily send those MagicSIMs to them; it would be a GREAT solution since it doesn't involve extracting the Ki and we all know the overwhelming majority of SIMs out there are COMP128-V2 or V3...

Oh well. Speak up your mind, people!

To stick to the thread topic, I'd say that SonicSim is the answer, and we now know the question, which was something around "name an unlocking method that doesn't work"

I might lack some imagination but I don't see how this is going to work if you cannot update the logic on the controller ... which definitely cannot be done with the method described here. So IMHO keeping barking up that tree is a complete waste of time.

As I mentioned, it could be a timing glitch on the MagicSIM hardware, or even a fallback on the physical SIM when it finds that it has ICCID and IMSI present but not a Ki.

Which means that the 15th is a more realistic choice than the 16th.

But anything could happen Who knows

    Question

Does anybody knows what happens if I scan my magicsim?

With 16th gen nothing happens. The software says that there is no sim inserted.
16th gen seems to function just like a unprogrammed sim proxy, which redirects the traffic straight to (one of) the inserted sim card(s). This makes it unsuitable for a bootloader 4.6 unlock.

Let's see what happens when I receive 15th gen. It looks like it should be working like a silvercard, because you can program sim cards on it. This however works only with V1 sims (just like with the silvercard).

Update: I retrieved the KI of my T-Mobile sim with woron scan. It is a V1.
After that I tried to scan the same T-Mobile sim inserted in the Magicsim 16th gen. When I hit the KI button again in Woron scan it gives me error 80100066. After a bit of Googling I found out that the card is unresponsive to a reset. I'm not sure what this means.
I'm currently using a USB PC/SC sim card reader. The error could be a limitation of the current PC/SC standard for USB smart card devices. Later this week I will receive a Duolabs Dynamite Plus with serial connector. If that gives different results, I'll let you know.

It does have a STK menu, no?

Kind of; I doubt it uses the regular PIC or Atmel core found on Silver/Green/WhateverColourOfTheRainbow Cards used for satellite cloning applications and whatnot.

OTOH, I'd love to know what chip model is that on the MagicSIM 16th/15th. Erasing it and overriding it with a new program that simulates the TurboSIM method shouldn't be impossible, and I suspect it's not even difficult.

Smartcard protocol thing (look for ATR - Answer to Reset). When you're using the MagicSIM device, do you have to enter the PIN at boot to make it select the active SIM card?

I'd LOVE to hear more about that as well. Maybe this elusive SIM programmer is the key?

I did not check if there was an STK menu on the iPhone. This is just what Woron scan shows me. As with Hypercard, I think an extra piece of specially written software for the iPhone must be installed to switch between 2 sim cards, but that's not my main concern now.

I'd like to know as well which chip the Magicsim 15th and 16th gen uses. They smartly rubbed all text away from the chip...

Yes, you have to enter the pin to select the inserted card. Maybe that's the reason why it gave me the error. I'll try again with the PIN. The ICCID and ISMI request just gave me back the numbers of the inlay chip, not from the Magicsim 16th gen.

Edit: Here are some pictures from the Magicsim 16th gen. Can anyone tell which chip is on there?
On the Magicsim it looks like text has been rubbed off from the chip.
I've also asked people in another thread to compare the pics to Hypersim.
