I love how everyone ignores the reasonable posts doubting this works. I would wait for more info personally.

But in order to this to be verified people has to test. And it's basically a very cheap test, 20 bucks top. So let's test. I'm going to the mobile phone stores magicSIM hunting this weekend.

Actually there's a perfectly good explanation for that: if this turns out to be the cheap solution to unlock the 1.1.2, there's a LOT of money to be made by buying the Dual SIM cheap and then sell it for TurboSIM prices.

So people are rushing it, already ordering the bits, hoping it turns out to be a solution indeed.

I myself already bought mine, and I disclosed so on the IRC channel, while also disclosing that I only did that because I need a dual SIM adapter anyway, and it never occurred to me to look for them on eBay. In hindsight that's so obvious and I'm really feeling kind of retarded not to have thought of that.

So I only bought the dual SIM because either way, there's no loss. Turns out to be a perfectly good unlock solution: yay! Turns out not to: bummer, but no loss.

The only way I could come up with even considering the possibility that this works is that the dual SIM will boot up with those default AT&T values and that's what the iPhone will get at first, and then it switches to the operator SIM as it finishes its detection and registration routine. So it MIGHT work, but not knowing the internals of the dual SIM myself, I can't really say this is indeed the way this method works. That said, if this is indeed how it works, mad props to DarKSideZ for even dreaming about the possibility of exploiting the dual SIM, because not considering the ICCID/IMSI switching was a fatal flaw. If this works, it's effectively a meta-timing-attack exploit, i.e., exploiting a timing glitch on one device in order to exploit a timing glitch on another device. Classy stuff!!

So far speculation towards either result is just that, speculation. And I'd rather not get my hopes high on this one. But I guess we'll all know how it goes soon enough, and there's always the elusive 1.1.3 secpack unlock, whenever it's done, just in case some people end up with boxes of dual SIMs.

Worst case scenario, just resell them to gullible friends that you manage to convince that dual SIMs are the best thing since sliced bread :p

I'm not saying at all that it's not worth testing. There just haven't really been any comments from some people. It's like they didn't even see the posts.

I do have one question myself.... are all sims in the US version 1? I ask because we don't have the infamous "U" technology.

We're still waiting for the magicsim to arrive.
As soon as it arrives I'll test and let you know the results.
For that price it's indeed worth trying (at least).

If by "some people" you mean the dev team, well it's logic that they don't respond to it. This is not the thing they do, they are looking for a software unlock, not a hardware trick.

It's about the number of people out there with a bootloader 4.6, who are just waiting to make their first phone call with the iPhone. They spent hundreds of Dollars/Euros on their iPhones, expecting they would be able to unlock the phone.

A software unlock would be the most perfect thing, but throwing out anySIM open source does not sound like the Dev team is very close to a solution...

I don't mean the dev team at all..... I meant the people asking "so I can use an USB reader/writer right?" without apparently reading or caring what the end result could be. I hope it works, I truly do. I am not a guy who comes on here flaming ideas or people for their comments. I just found it amazing how people only want to hear/read what the want.

Test on!! I wish you all luck with the 1.1.2 OOB. I really hope this is a fix, this would be great. Reason, should eliminate all future unlock issues for these guys as well. Hell if enough confirm I might even do this myself with my wife's and my 1.1.1's.

    Thanks for your support Ki7hy!

I personally have an iPhone with an older bootloader, so no prob here.

Anyhow, we have so many people on the Dutch iphone forum begging for a solution for OTB 1.1.2. I just hope the test with Magicsim will be successful.
It's affordable and looks like easy to do. Now I just hope all AT&T sims are V1...

While we're talking about it, will a USB sim card writer do the trick? I'm interested as well. It looks like the magicsim people have a USB driver available for download.

    We're just going to try...
