Question [1.1.2 OTB] Apple Activated, how do i modify APN w/o Jailbreaking ?

Correction, not Jailbroken, only activated (service/replacement phone).

So Apple replaced my 1.1.1 iPhone that had the crash when coming out of sleep problem. I just restored it, took it in and got lucky.

Anyhow I ended up with a new (service/replacement) phone (Week 47) with 1.1.2 and it's already "Activated" by Apple (like most service phones). So I ordered a TurboSIM and it should be here tomorrow.

Is there is a way to access the .plist files to update my APN without downgrading the OS then coming back up (Jailbreaking)? I'm trying to avoid installing any 3'rd party Apps so I can have the cleanest unlock possible.

Any way to access the phones files via SFTP or SCP without doing a 3'rd party jailbreak and installing SSH etc.?

I searched on this but could not find anything.

    I think you mean "activated".

Jailbreak is to install 3rd party apps. If you want to edit your APN without jailbreaking, which i guess for APN you talk about EDGE settings, just go in Settings > General > Network > EDGE and change it manually.

Sorry your correct it's not Jailbroken its just activated.

There is no EDGE menu under Network, this is something that the Jailbreaking process adds. It modify's a .plist file to add that menu option. I know which file and what part ot modify i just can't access the files on the phone without Jailbreaking the device.

Does anyone know of a way to modify or upload .plist files without Jailbreaking or installing 3rd party apps?

Can Somebody prove me wrong, but unfortunately it is not possible without downgrading/jailbreaking.

BTW, you can give a try to this:

    iphonefs
Mount any iPhone as a Windows Drive - jailbroken or not

Hmmm, thats a sweet program Xian but it only allows access to the media portion of storage.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

    That's what i thought.

Only the Media partition is accessible, well, until it is Jailbroken.

Ok well when i got home and actualy installed the NextSIM the EDGE option appeard in the General->Network. Quite plug and play.

So was i incorrect? Or is this normal for 1.1.2? In other words does everyone have this experience?

Seems that when you jailbreak you have update a few files to gain the EDGE option. Interesting...

Nice to have an almost factory unlocked iPhone. Now i just have to figure out how to sync to iTunes w/o removing the SIM.

    Thanks XianLi

So this might explain why my locked activated jailbroken 1.1.2 does not show the Settings->General->Network->EDGE settings?
They will appear as soon as I have it unlocked and it can connect to a carrier?
    One riddle less
