Default [1.1.2] confusion over hardware unlock

i kind of posted this in the unlocking thread, but i may have better luck here.

i'm a bit confused. so any clarification would be much appreciated. but let me start off with where i'm at.

so as some of you may know. i have a 1.1.2 jailbreaked and activated phone. i used this tutorial:

    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18284

i just ordered an easyisim that should be coming any day now. when it comes, all i have to do is cut the corner of my sim card, place it together with the easyisim, and then insert it in my phone. no?

this is where the confusion comes in, i'm hearing a lot of people opening their phones to unlock. what are they doing? why is it necessary? is it better than an *sim unlock? which is a hardware unlock? or are they both but for different reasons/options?

sorry, i'm just really confused as you can tell. so any explanation would be great. because if i'm required to open my phone after i insert the easyisim...well, i ain't doing it bc i would have no idea how to.

    thanks in advanced.

(YES, Just cut to fit to the sim holder)

(you not require to open you phone when you using any ***-SIM solution, it is plug n play)

(you definitely no require open your phone when using EASYiSIM)
