Default tether iphone for free starbucks wifi

    hey everyone,

i am interested in using the free wifi on my iphone at starbucks since i am an at&t customer.

i'm not sure if it's possible, but i'd like to use my iphone as a wifi proxy so i can use my laptop at starbucks and not have to pay (since i get free wifi on my iphone there).

is this possible? i'm aware of all technical aspects, jailbreaking, etc.

    Thanks!

    - j

Mods, shouldn't that thread be in Tools instead of (or in addition to) Free Toolchain Software?

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

The topic is just a general question so I think it's ok for it to be here.
    Now back to question.
    - if the phone is running fw 2.x.x then you can use PDANET to tether. It works on 2G 3G iphone.
    - since you know about jailbreak and all other aspects. you just need to run cydia and install it.

Note: your phone needs to use the EDGE or 3G data plan. If your phone is using the hotspot wifi and you want your laptop to share that connection then it is not possible.

More questions on the software should be posted in the free toolchain software as suggested by Jim.

dtube, let me clarify what I meant: the thread to which I linked above is about tethering a Windows computer to an iPhone's internet connection through a USB cable (using iTunnel or iPhone Tunnel Suite). Since iPhone Tunnel Suite is not "free toolchain software" but a Windows "tool" for connecting to an iPhone, I though that thread might belong here.

As to PDAnet: that works for tethering a 3G/EDGE/GPRS connection to a computer through Wifi, but it won't work for tethering Wifi internet to your computer -- for that you'll need one of the USB tools.
