Ummmm you could try using WinSCP or iphone browser to get into the directory but I don't think it's that simple. I'm not sure the exact process but I'm pretty sure your gonna have to convert the file.

I know that i was able to drop ringtones in the iphones stock ringtones...so perhaps it can be done if we new where the text message tones are stored in the phone....hmm...gonna have to play around with that.

    Navigate to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds

    sms-received1.caf = Tri-tone
    sms-received2.caf = Chime
    sms-received3.caf = Glass
    sms-received4.caf = Horn
    sms-received5.caf = Bell
    sms-received6.caf = Electronic

You will have to replace 1 of these 6 .caf audio files.

.caf files are .aiff files renamed.

hi, i found these and swapped them, converted the aif to caf and renamed, but i get no sound when i go to use them on the phone. Any ideas as to why this isn;t working? I was able to change them on 1.1.1 but now i'm on 1.1.3 it's not working.

Add this source in your installer:

    i.danstaface.net

Then install "Ringtones" under "Multimedia" and you can create and change both Call and SMS ringtones it is awesome! You can even make Ringtones with your microphone! Enjoy!

Hi the reason you may not be getting any sound is once you have created or selected the sound you want, you then need to convert the file to 'aif. once you have done that rename the file to the corresponding filename. For example rename file anyname.aif to sms-received1.caf then overwrite the file on the iphone. You you want you can make a backup of the original file. The secret is your file has to have the same name as the original

  11. Thanks tehdedd00d thanked for this post.
