It's the bloody ICS that doesn't work! Can't
route the iPhone requests to the LAN adopter.
    Bridging doesn't work either...all connections
are lost including the LAN's! I love windows

    Would like to bump this.

Have a "famous" SL-2511CD Plus EXT2 PC Card running in SoftAP mode. Can successfully ping from laptop to iPhone.

However, absolutely no way to get anywhere on the net from the iPhone, inspite of having ICS activated on LAN connected to laptop. Also using OpenDNS on the iPhone.

    Any ideas?

I don't know whether Wormhole has overcome his WiFi problem already, I'd certainly hope so. Just in case he didn't.

It took me 3 bloody days (and nights) fiddling with the likes of ICS and the problem that seemed impossible to solve was that the WiFi connection, configured almost like you guys described - there's really only one way of doing it, worked only as long as the phone was in the "Settings" program. That seemed to keep the TCP/IP alive enough so that the PC could successfully ping the phone. The iPhone couldnít ping the PC like youíve discussed.

The PC initiated pings failed as soon as you quit Settings and returned to the main menu. WiFi connection was soon broken physically.

It worked out that my antivirus was doing something rather subtle. It complements the Windows firewall and intercepts packets to check them in several respects. The logs of the anti-virus said that the packets sent from the phone were suspiciously small, and therefore blocked. Then it said that an inbound source was trying to access the internet, in other words the iPhone packets born on my LAN arrived on the laptop and were suspect in trying to go through the 3G gateway, and the anti-virus blocked that silently. The thing that got me, was that the FSecure used to warn me with pop-ups about every little bloody thing it wanted to do, only on this matter it didnít.

The (almost) final solution to having a working WiFi between my iPhone and my laptop was to disable the TCP/IP filtering, and enable inbound traffic.

Pings started to work both ways and WiFi didn't break anymore.

Another similar and much easier problem now was to allow DNS resolution through the anti-virus, the details of which I've already forgotten.

Now my laptop with WiFi and 3G is an access point around my house, and it helps me at work as well as I no longer have to put-up with the foul attitudes of my LAN admins who hate iPhones couse they love Nokia, or whatever.

    I hope this helps somebody...

Hi again guys and a big thanks to all of u trying to help! It turned out that either the adaptor (Intel wireless pro 2200 g ......o.s.) or the implementation of that in my laptop (F-S Amilo 1451g) despite having the right drivers doesn't work very well with windows. What worked for me was installing the Odyssey client and managing my adaptor through that instead of Network Connections. Crazy s@*&...anyways, big thanks again.

    p.s: Alex...tell those admins they're full of @#$%&*!

Sure we can...just choose "Open" and leave the network key field empty

Excuce my ignorance , but I dont see that he mentions, that he has a a WiFi Router, is'nt easers just to buy a wifi router and conect the ADSL to it and make conecction on the comp via Ethernet and iPhone via Wifi, each one will have an IP and all you need to do is create is the LAN.
