Default Create (and cut) your own ringtone for your iPhone!

    Hi,

i wrote a guide some days ago, BUT it is in german, sorry:
    http://www.apfelei.com/archives/26-E...erstellen.html

It works (only?) with iPhone firmware 1.1.2!
Here is a short guide in English for those who don't understand my german guide:
    1. Convert you MP3 song to AAC (.m4a) in iTunes
    2. Edit your song in Garageband, cut it down to maximum 30-40 seconds, see 1st screenshot
    3. Rename your *.m4a song to *.m4r (the "r" stands for ringtone!) ind the finder
    4. Doubleclick your ringtone to open it in iTunes
    5. Then it appears in your ringtones section of your media library
    6. Sync the ringtones with your iPhone
    7. Choose the new ringtone on your iPhone, see 2nd screenshot
    8. Have fun!

    Unhappy

i've got the problem with your way of syncing...
everything goes fine until i'm getting to the setting-sounds-calls
when i sync in for example 3 different ringtones with different names and getting to that menu on my iphone setting i'm seeing 3 ringtones in custom BUT WITH THE SAME ONE NAME...
it looks like (with example names):

    custom
    ring sound
    ring sound
    ring sound

but when i check the iphone ringtones in iTunes - i see all my 3 different ones like that:

    ring sound
    my sound
    some song

besides, all 3 identical tone-names in custom menu - play the same (for listed names it would be tone with name "ring sound")

if i delete the tone "ring sound" on iphone, then i'll see

    my sound
    my sound

    or

    some song
    some song

i can't figure out how iphone choose the one among the others...
i tried many times to get to know the logics but in vein... the results are always random...

    have anybody any ideas?

I also recommend the MeCCA method - you just have to know what you are doing

the simpliest way is if you have 1.1.2 and itune 7.5. i myself am on 1.1.2 unlocked with tmobile and itunes 7.5 and all you need to do is edit the length of the ringtone(right click song click get info and choose the start and end time) and right click and convert to aac. Then right click the new AAC song in itunes and copy it to your desktop. rename the file and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r(if you are not seeing an extension, open up my computer, and click folder and search options. click the view tap and lok for hide extensions for know file types and have that unchecked) once your ringtone is .m4r just double click it and it will go into itunes under ringtones. simply sync up your iphone and voila!

I tried different programs and the iTunes method but couldn't get ringtones working so this is the method I use and it works perfectly!

    Preparing the Ring Tones:

    a) Get some mp3 splitter from google and split your mp3 files into desirable parts.
    b) Drag and drop those split mp3 files into itunes.
    c) Right click on the mp3 and select "Convert Selection to AAC"
    d) When the conversion is done it will start playing.
    e) Right click on that new aac file and select "show in explorer"
    f) Make sure you got file extensions enabled so you can see .m4a at the end of the file.
    g) Rename the .m4a to .m4r

Transfering Ring Tones to the iPhone:

    a) Download and Install iPhone Browser
    b) Connect your iPhone to the dock and open iPhoneBrowser.
    c) Select "go to location" > "Ringtones"

    d) Drag and drop all your .m4r files in the right side and they will be uploaded.
    e) The uploaded ringtones will visible under Settings > Sounds > Ringtone

    Talking Easy way

    If you have Installer
    Download and install SendSong App
I think that is the easiest way!!!
check out NewAttiPhone.com for more details
and if Installer crashes or if you have not yet ran this fix i strongly recommend it before you run into trouble

I am puzzled as to why this works for some and not for others. I too can no longer add custom ringtones. I have been able to in the past, both with iBrickr and with SendSongs, but now I can't. I have all the tools (SSH, Sendsongs, iBrickr), know my way around the file structure of my phone, and can even see the ringtones in Library/Ringtones, all properly encoded in m4r, but the phone simply does not offer them as options in Settings>Sounds>Ringtone. I have even followed Erica's instructions and reloaded Sendsong, which supposedly reloads your custom ringtones. I have rebooted, etc. I have a 1.0.2 OTB jailbroken, IPSF unlocked>1.1.1>1.1.2 (jailbroken, unlocked) phone. Please help!
