And the app is iToner ofc.
1. Find your mp3 file that you were using as a ringtone, and drop it into iTunes.
2. Make sure your iTunes importing settings are such that AAC is selected for importing.
3. Right click on the file in iTunes playlist and select convert to AAC.
4. Drag the file from the iTunes playlist to your desktop and change the .aac OR .m4a file extension to .m4r (make sure it is m4R not m4A)
5. Open up iToner and proceed as normal with the sync process
6. Go into the iPhone settings and select your custom ringtone and it should play as expected.
Enjoy!
And btw: You don't need to think about the 30 sec limit ;D

Excellent. Just download iToner for mac here ...
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/itoner/
It works for free for the 1st 30 days (trial mode) then you got to pay for it.
Install and launch iToner and place a song in it and it will automatically sync with iTunes and your iPhone.
It works flawless with my iTunes 7.6.1 & unlocked iphone with firmware 1.1.2.
Thanks,
Varun

I got the same problem. Any way of fixing this without switching to automatic?

Guys this is the easiest thing to do by yourself.. No need for programs!!
Just open any sound or Mp3 in Quicktime and then export it as a Ringtone format and then just double click it and it will play in itunes automatically.. The next time you sync your iPhone look under ringtones and it will be in your list through itunes.. just sync and your done.
Much faster and easier!
