[SSH] how to change owner of directories and/or apps on 1.1.4 ?

many applications cant save anymore, like the camera, safari, notes, mail, etc, because the ownership of the directories is "root" instead of "mobile", and therefore they dont have the permission to save.
which is kinda shitty :P

i've tried with winSCP, but the ownership is disabled.

i've got a windows and a mac os x, so i can use an app of eigter machine :)

To change apps or directories ownership (by using chown installed in BSD Subsystem) to mobile follow this in an OS X terminal:

Quote:

chown -R mobile:wheel /Applications/App_you_want_to_change.app

---

To switch it back to root use this:

Quote:

---

chown -R root:wheel /Applications/App_you_want_to_change.app

---

PS: ApplicationName.app is in fact a directory, the method works for apps and/or directories.

Hi, I am having the same maddening problem. Could you please be a little more detailed in your instructions? I am on a Windows machine. Can I open a terminal in WinSCP and do this? do I nee to navigate tot he appropriate parent directory first? Thanks for your help.

WinSCP is for files transfers.

For Windows, you must use Putty.

oke, i got another question, maybe a little offtopic, but still, dont want to flood the board with yet another post :)

so, if i login with SSH, i'm logged in as root, so newly created directories, files, etc get the ownership "root", which is good in most cases (say systemfile modification), but if i change something in the user space, i^ll run into troubles again.

and when i tried to login as "mobile", i cant log in, neighter via terminal, nor via SFTP.

is this not possible, or did i just overlook a detail? thanks

i never tried to login as mobile before, but i just tried and when i use the default password (alpine) i get instantly disconnected without any password error message.
If i try another password it says it is wrong.

So if you make modification in your phone by using ssh, you'll have to change the ownership to all the modified files.

Can someone tell me how to install ringtones from itunes on 1.1.4 ? The directory has apparently changed (dunno why its a fix)

Tried resetting all settings doesn't work.

To get my Notes working again- I had to change the permissions of this directory...

chown -R mobile:wheel /var/mobile/Library/Notes
