[iTunes] How to switch modes (Normal, Activation, and Genius Bar)

Simply execute these commands in Terminal

Checks for a valid SIM card (as in, official, like AT&T, o2, TMobile DE, etc.) then activates the attached iPhone. Tes----REMOVED----
=== On ===
In terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreActivationMode -boolean YES
=== Off ===
In terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreActivationMode -boolean NO
== Store Genius Mode ==
Utterly useless mode, to say the least. It disables all syncing and just allows updating/restoring. It is probably so that the personal information, email addresses, pictures, etc. do not get synced to the Genius Bar computer. I guess that should be a relief.
=== On ===
In terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreGeniusMode -boolean YES
=== Off ===
In terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreGeniusMode -boolean NO
Have fun!
Mods, I was not sure if this would be better here or in the 'Tools' section. Feel free to move it if necessary.

Hey Chronic, I have wondered about this. What purpose does this serve other than a legit activation on a 3g? Am I missing something? As running beta 8, it activates on 7.7 pretty straight up (with a legit sim of course.)
Have you discovered how to utilize the above activate a t-mo sim on a beta 8 phone- using all of the other tools of course?
Thanks in advance Chronic.

I'd rather not share too much info, but one thing I can say is that testers have reported that they are able to activate with a legit ATT sim card even with no network connection. I am unable to personally confirm though, because I am officially activated

Why did they remove the command for activation mode?
iPhone "2G" - 3.1.3 - Jailbroken + iPhoDroid
iPhone 4 - 4.0.2 - Not jailbroken (yet)

I've testet a restore on my 8GB 3G iPhone from 5a345 (already activated by swisscom, but while restore with another SIM) to 5a347 - while restore disabled internet connection and after finishing while message "do not unplug" I've closed iTunes then and opened in storeactivationmode (still without network) - it says that it can't connect to the iTunes store and all I can do is cancel. Next try with network it says that this SIM is not official supported and can't activate - so I insert my Swisscom SIM again and tried again with storeactivationmode and network and supported SIM and it activated immediately.
So what's the difference without storeactivationmode?

Update, I will be releasing a tool within a day or two that lets you do the following
Switch between Normal, Activation, Genius Bar, and Store Demo
Turn off and on the annoying backup that is done to 2.0 every single sync
Check http://chronic-dev.org/ it will be up there when it's ready
