That post was 19 months old; in the current firmware, the equivalent thing to do would be:
- Download iPhoneBrowser (or DiskAid or any of the other connection programs; google for it)
- Connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable and start iPhoneBrowser
- Find the location /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control and rename the entire thing. (e.g. call it iTunes_Control_Backup or delete it, but you can always do that later)
- Restart the phone and make a connection with iTunes.
This is at your own risk; I have never tried this and I wouldn't be surprized if it leads to a corrupt profile.
iPhone 3GS / 3.1.2 JB (PwnageTool) / 04.26.08 carrier-locked, Carrier Logo Fixer / Cydia / 1000 posts on Hackint0sh
Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.
Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

itunes 9.0.3.15 sync probs
hey guys, dunno where to start. Im on vista32, iphone 3Gs 3.1 otb 5.11.07 running blackra1n. Prob is that IŽll need to upgrade, coz me phone does wierd things like sometime when press home button pop up call history, battery is exhausting too fast and other small things affecting my phone which I donŽt like. The biggest one is sync problem - iTunes 9.0.3.15 wonŽt accept my phone after i upgraded from older version of iTunes in march. When plug phone and open iTunes pops up window says: itunes cannot read the contents of the iphone, go to summary tab in iphone preferences and click restore - Im not stupid right, know what that could cause to my phone. Just have no clue how to sort this, coz I cant upload any music.. appreciate any ideas

Thanks for the post. It worked for me. I just bought a new 3Gs version 4.0.2 that was jailbroken and unlocked with limera1n. I downloaded iPhoneBrowser and followed the directions. works GREAT!

Are you asking - do I need to jailbreak to change this?? Well if you really need to get at the /var/root/Media directory - then yes you need to be jailbroken. However I think these instructions are old/out of date and to fix this on a modern IOS version you should go to /var/mobile/Media instead. Parts of /var/mobile/Media are accessible without a jailbreak.
