    Sim1,
Hachu is right, if you go to application you should have an application which is called Image Capture (at least is on mine OS X 10.4.10), if you open it and go to preferences/general under Camera it ask the following: When a camera is connected, open: (here you can choose between iPhoto, Image capture or No application

PS if you don't find it try to search with spotlight for it

The only folder I have called Image Capture is inside my Library and contains 2 other folders: "Devices" and "Twain Data Sources". Needless to say, I don't have any preferences to set/change.

    I'm on Mac OS X 10.4.10

Apparently, given the message from our German friend, if you use a non-english version of OS X 10.4.10 the name of the application migh be different. Since I think you are running an Italian version of the OS you migh check for something called "cattura immagini" the icon is a little camera.

It is in /Applications/Image Capture.app by default. Not "/Users/*yourusername*/Applications/Image Capture.app"

But since you apparently checked both.... that's very odd.

If spotlight can't find it, you'll just need to find another mac running the same OS version as you and copy it over as it's part of the default install.
