iPhone sync
Hey all!
I have an iPhone 3G, running 2.2.1 firmware. I used to sync it with my desktop, which no longer exists. Since I would sync, all my music, contacts, calendars, etc. are on my iPhone. I would like to be able to sync them to my new laptop, so that it too has my music, contacts, calendar etc.
If I plug in my iPhone into my new laptop and choose sync in iTunes, will it erase everything on my iPhone?
Thank you!

No. All your contacts, calendar, etç will go into the new desktop.
Not sure about the music though.

Thanks for your answer.
I copied my music to my laptop via Sharepod, and got it all in iTunes (complete with playlists and ratings). However, when I plug it in, it only warns me that 3.01 is available. I try to sync, it says "Syncing", then stops, no error message nothing.
I don't even get the "This iPhone is synced with another computer" or something like that....

You have to restore to 3.0.1, then run redsn0w.

But won't this erase all my songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data?

Yes it will, that's why I said to sync with iTunes before restoring.
Manually remove the photos from the iPhone. The music you should have it in your PC.
The contacts and calendar will be synced back ti the phone once yuo sync with iTunes after restore.
The only thing you'll loose is the SMS history.

The problem is I can't sync the iPhone with the PC in the first place! If I could, there would be no problem!

You don't have to get any message, it's normal. And if it stops with no error that's because the process ended with no error.
Make sure you have contacts and calendar checked in the iPhone tab of iTunes and that is syncing with something, like google contacts, or outlook or something similar.

Hi Guys
if you're on 2.x firmware you could also play safe & copy the music from the phone with something like THIS.
And you may find if you delete the Old backups from file/perferences/Devices in itunes it may then sync without errors
