Activation no longer requires jailbreak. Check the README file that comes with it.

    SO far so good.

Now: I shut down iTunes and every other iTunes related process. I launch Independence with my iPhone plugged into my Mac. I push the jail break button and select the directory which I have created with all the files in it. I see a nice picture of a Jail for 30 secs. and then the program quits and I get an error!! I have to restore the iPhone.

What am I doing wrong? Please please help!
Try iNdependence version 1.1.1 and see if it works. If it does, then it's a bug with iTunes 7.3.2 and the new 1.2 version. Otherwise, it could be that the way you've downgraded has messed things up somehow.

    Thanks 0p!

After a few attempts my phone got angry and I got the endless reboot problem. I pressed the buttons for 20sec. and managed to install AppTapp and the latest version of iTunes. Don't ask me how but things worked out. I then used Independence to Activate and re-jailbrake the phone. It's now running on 1.2 OS. Ready to receive the SIM Free treatment.

First you need to install SSH on your phone if you haven't already. Then run the Settings app, select "Wi-Fi", then press the blue arrow beside the name of the Wi-Fi network your phone is connected to.

Don't use iNdepedance to upload the files. Instead, install SSH using iNdepdance and then upload the files using Cyberduck or Fugu. You will need SSH for the unlock anyway so it is good to install it now.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I tend to use Transmit (SFTP client) to install stuff more than iNdependence. Application install from iNdependence is somewhat hit and miss right now.
