iNdependence 1.2.5 released
http://code.google.com/p/independence/
Check the CHANGELOG for details about what's changed.
The main change in this version is that I've replaced DropbearSSH with OpenSSH. This should solve the many problems people were having with SSH connections timing out. If you have an existing DropbearSSH installation, this version will detect that and let you uninstall and reinstall with OpenSSH.
Another big change is that I now just use lockdownd patching for activation on all firmware versions (1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, and 1.1.1). This makes your phone factory activated and you can freely swap SIM cards without having to reactivate. It also makes it so that activating does not re-jail your phone (a big request).
Other than that, ringtone customization still doesn't work yet. I've read all of the documentation about how to hack install ringtones, but it seems like a complicated process at this point. Hopefully someone will figure out an easier way.

I used 1.2.4. Should I update the lockdownd patch introduced in 1.2.5? If so, exactly how do I do this?

Interesting.. I used 1.2.4 to activate my 1.1.1 phone and I am able to swap sims freely.

Yes, if you used iNdependence 1.2.4 to activate a 1.1.1 phone, then you don't need to redo it using 1.2.5. The lockdownd patch is exactly the same for 1.1.1.
However, if you are using it with a 1.0.2 (or earlier) phone, then you may want to deactivate and reactivate it so that you can get the lockdownd patch for your firmware version. This is the big difference. I have added lockdownd patching for older firmware versions as well.

I used 1.2.4 with my OTB 1.1.1 so I guess I'm good. Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for the great app. I have been using my 1.0.2 iphone with a turbo sim for a while now, however yesterday I messed up and had to restore to 1.1.1.
I used iNdependance this morning to downgrade to 1.0.2 then activate, and install SSH etc...
However when I try to run the pre 1.1.1 upgrade I get :
FAILED Couldnt remove entry from /users/myname/.ssh/known_hosts. Please edit that file by hand and remove the lone containing your phones IP address.
Any idea ? Where is this files located, on the phone or my mac ?
Thanks
Mark.

hi,
from readme...
Your SSH keys are likely to change, so if you get any errors about an
incorrect key, you can:
rm -f ~/.ssh/known_hosts
from your desktop's home directory and try again.
