To be more specific from my previous post. There are two ways to activate the iPhone:

One way is based on the ICCID. So if you have your iPhone unlocked, travel, and buy a SIM card to stick in your unlocked iPhone you will have to reactivate the iPhone to accept the new SIM.

The other way to activate the iPhone is to do the FactoryActivated activation explained here:
    http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2212
this way the iPhone is activated and not tied to a ICCID on a SIM.

So I am wondering which way it activates the iPhone?

Try quitting and restarting iNdependence. Maybe it's in a bad state.

If that doesn't work, perhaps try deactivating via iFuntastic (if that's possible)?

Deactivation should work regardless of how you've activated the phone, but I don't know what exactly iFuntastic is doing, so I can't say for sure.

After it tries to deactivate it says the state is "Factory Activated" (which I believe is what I ended up doing) and then doesn't recognize it as deactived, which I guess makes sense. That seems to be the sticking point on my iphone, might be his/her problem too.

It reads the SIM ICCID from the phone during the activation process. Do you have information about the activation process which allows for any SIM?

hmm, I dunno about that method. lockdownd will need to be patched differently for every new firmware which updates it. Not sure if I want to deal with the hassle of having to have different versions of lockdownd in my app (and I'm not sure if distributing patched versions of it would be legal).

I can put code in to detect the FactoryActivated state (so that iNdependence can deactivate a phone which is factory activated), but I don't know if I'll be able to put that activation method in my app unless I can figure out a way to do it without distributing patched versions of lockdownd.

i dont get it...everytime i run this program the phone goes to restart and the program crashes. not only does it crash it crashes a second time and then i have to factorize my iPhone again...

i load the program (making sure itunes is closed and stuff) and then i click deactivate (cause i activated with 1.1.1) and then it asks for the firmware (1.0.2) i link to it and then it restarts my iphone... as my iphone and crashes.. then after that i MUST factorize all over again before i give it another go.. i have tried restarting and everything. any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Just curious, why must the phone be deactivated to generate the appropriate plist and pem files for youtube? I have to admit I have no idea how the authentication with youtube works. I wonder who's dumb idea it was to even go to that much trouble to limit access to the new alternate youtube access.

    Same here. Says - FactoryActivated

I think it has something to do with the lockdownd or something like that. Can we have iNdependence 1.3.x process it?
