I was able to get a terminal app thru the app store.
But as I dont have openssl installed it wont run.
I wonder when openssl will become available on the app store.

Yes I figured I could use ibricker just not sure how. Guess will have to find the old PLX files.

I can create a script on the PC and put it onto the phone is there anyway I can get it to execute i.e. an autoexec.bat file that runs when the phone is booted up ?

I think the MobileTerminal (the open one that's in Cydia) doesn't need OpenSSL to work. (At least OpenSSL isn't in its list of dependencies). But I don't know how to get that onto your phone.

You can have a script run at bootup by creating a launch daemon in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons that starts the script (for example you can more or less copy com.saurik.Cydia.Startup.plist). But if you have to go through all this... are you sure you haven't reached the point where a restore will save you time?

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

Yes I have Apple is a POS
Did a restore and am downloading it all via cydia right now.
    Just finished openssl.
Thanks anyway have give you a rep point for all the help.

Your post gave me an idea to save wifi life since its so flakey and crapy on the my phone.
I will download all the files from apt copy them via usb and then run a script using the command you gave me to install them.

I was wrong it has nothing to do with carier settings or the firmware it seems more like a hardware issue.

I dont think the chips are failing or the com board needs replacing you just need to open it up. Clean it all ensure conections are good and put it back together.
    Worked for me.
Keep a close eye on temps. i.e. dont run wifi runing for hours.

    Default Install .deb without SSH/terminal/internet

As an afterthought, here is how you can let Cydia install a program from a .deb file if your phone is without OpenSSH, without a working terminal application, and without Internet access. Too late, but I stumbled onto it and who knows when it may be useful.

So you can't use any terminal on the phone or over SSH to issue commands (if you can, just use post #8 above). And you can't change ownership or permission of files, since you have no SSH. But you can always put files on the phone, simply by connecting it to the USB port and starting one of the countless interface programs: iPhoneBrowser, DiskAid, iFunBox, ...

    1. Download the .deb archive(s) you want to install (for instance from Modmyi or BigBoss).
    2. Create a folder on your computer named Cydia and, inside that, one named AutoInstall (mind the capital I). Put the .deb file(s) in AutoInstall.
    3. With the tool of your choice, navigate to /var/root/Media/ on your iPhone and put the Cydia folder there (with all its contents). Or if /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall/ already exists, just drop the .deb files in there.
    4. Turn your phone off and on again.

Default How to install deb files?

    Jim,

Thanks so much for the afterthought. It really helped me in my mission to change permissions on my iPod touch without Wifi. However, once I transfer the deb files to it, Cydia doesnt automatically install them.... or it does and I just dont see the icons on the springboard. I can see them in the Packages section of Cydia and that it. Can you please aid me? Thanks in advance.

edit - I don't have terminal either so I also need a way to install mobileterminal without wifi too.

edit - Wow, Im an idiot. Of course, you cannot see OpenSSH on the springboard haha. I was talking about BossPrefs. I dragged the BossPrefs deb file to the Cydia/AutoInstall folder, rebooted my iTouch, and then I saw no icon on the springboard. Cydia did recognize BossPrefs in the Packages though..

It does require a restart of SpringBoard to make the newly installed applications visible. (Or you can reboot another time.)

    Default No Dice

Still nothing. I will try again momentarily. Thanks for the quick response!

edit - It still refuses to show up. I can only assume that Cydia hasn't really installed BossPrefs nor OpenSSH.
I just finished removing them via Cydia and then copying them over then rebooting again twice.
    Nothing.

If Cydia says they're installed, they're installed. So the problem is just with the visibility of the icons. You could try a number of things:

    • install some other applications that have icons, to see if you have more luck with them
    • install SBSettings, restart SpringBoard, start it (by swiping over the status bar), and tap "More" to see if the missing icon needs to be unhidden
    • (more radical) delete /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist (after making a backup of it), turn the phone off and on again, and see if the icon appears.

Maybe none of these will work (this problem has occurred before) and maybe restoring is the only answer...

On the positive side, since you have installed OpenSSH, you can now SSH into your phone using iPhone Tunnel Suite and the USB cable. Once you're in the system, you can solve all kinds of problems more easily.

Im stuck at the same point how do you install openssh onto the phone ?

Option 1 is fool quick pawn to do it for you by renaming it as installer but to achive this you need to find a tar.gz file we only found *.deb files.

If Cydia is already there, it's a matter of putting OpenSSL and OpenSSH in with deb files, as in post #14 above. Without it, I'd run QuickPwn first (it can install the full Cydia bundle, with close to 40 packages in it). Then do OpenSSL and OpenSSH again using post #14.

If you need a .tar.gz, open the .deb file (with Universal Extractor, 7zip or another extraction utility). It contains a file data.tar.gz with the right structure for Pwnage/Quickpwn.
