However, it will save and restore all your PIM and apps / 3rd party apps data and the apps themselves.

So after a firmeware restore you can just restore from the backup and are back to all your apps and settings.

    Hope that helps!
Thanks Kerry, but i'm on winblowz for now

It's all in there. I just download the complete content to my PC and have a backup when needed.
So.. I'm running on 2.0.1 and I want to upgrade to 2.0.2... if I backup this folder, reinstall and restore all data is back?

    Thanks a lot..

This always works BUT the iphone has to be jailbroken and OpenSSH running on it, otherwise it wont work.
I am not sure - cause I did not update to 2.0.2 so far - but I guess the data should survive the update.

Default Operator bundle / carrier bundle

Hi. I have a iPhone first generation with firmware 2.0.2 (5c1)....I deleted the carrier bundle and operator bundle folders by accident. They are located in /private/var/mobile/. Can someone kindly zipped these folders up and email them to me. jyan1974@aol.com

The files you mention are symlinks, so no one can send you the files. Plus they are in /private/var/mobile/Library. The carrier bundle symlink and the operator bundle symlink point to the carrier bundles you are using. The original files are sitting in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles.
You cannot mail symlinks, they have to be created on the device or computer, in your case the iPhone.
You did not "kill" them. I have not tried that one but:
    1. Reboot the iPhone by holding start/sleep and home until the Apple Logo shows up. Check if the symlinks are re-created
    2. If not switch simcards (just insert another one, prefered from antother carrier), then restart the iPhone, then switch back to your simcard and restart again. As far as I can recall the symlinks are created then new.

I'd try both methods, if none of them works, just post back your results.
