GoPhone Activation SIM Issue
I successfully activated my iPhone using a Cingular GoPhone SIM that I purchased on the web. I activated the phone 7 weeks ago and used it successfully even through a restore and reactivate under iPhone software 1.01. Last night I stupidly updated to iTune 4.7 and updated /restored the iPhone to 1.02. I had the endless rebooting problem and finally got that fixed. Using the iNdependence 1.1.1 I was able to get the phone reactivated except it says Waiting for AT&T to activate and I end up with No Service. Does anyone know how to get the SIM that was working prior to the 1.02 update working again. I don't know if the SIM could have gone bad or if the restore to 1.02 may have broken something in the phone. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I ordered a new GoPhone SIM to try but I'd really like to get the SIM working that I have right now. Thanks.

I had the same issue when upgrading from iPhone 1.00 to 1.01 ; I also activated with ATT GO Plan ; my problems were solved by simply restoring my backup from iTunes on the the iPhone

Is it possible to solve the endless rebooting problem with Windows? (I don't have a mac

Is the pre-paid method of activation still working through iTunes? That is, enter all the correct information, except for 999-99-999 as your social?

I don't know about the "999-99-999" method, but imho that was always useless. The only "pre-pay" plan you get through that method is not really pre-pay, you still end up paying a fixed monthly fee every month (which is almost as much $$ as the lowest 2 year contract plan).
Why not just go and buy a true pre-pay at&t gophone? they are cheap (i got mine for $9) and then take the simm card out of it, put it in your iphone, do the activation magic, and boom...you have a true pre-pay iphone.

Thats exactly what I am doing. I use iphone and Turbosim over here in Germany with o2 , got a "Cingular AT&T sim card starter kit 10$ prepaid" on ebay for 10$ including shipment. Cut out the edge at that prepaid card to fit turbosim and activated it through att online service before leaving europe. Was using it in the US at no problem, you get a us-phonenumber. expires after a month or so. but if you buy AT&T Cingular refill prepaid airtime minutes card for 100$ at a local store or on ebay, the number lasts a year.
cool for those travelling the us a lot and want to avoid the enormous roaming costs from our european providers.

I actually really USE the GoPhone plan from AT&T. I'm German and usually two times per year in the US, for me this is really worth the cost because I usually have a 600(!) Euro bill each time I return from the US. Two weeks ago I was in Miami, I spent around 90 USD from my GoPhone accumulated money amount (up to 6 months, the money you don't spend will be transferred into the next month and so on) and around 30 Euro with my german SIM. I saved at least a couple of hundreds of Euro. It is also cool to have a US mobile phone number.
