General Jailbreak Query
This is a pretty simple question but i haven't been able to find an easy answer.
My phone is currently in jail. And working with my TSIM.
If i was to break it out of jail would it
1) affect my TSIM and its working order
2) affect my settings such as Contacts/SMS/General Settings.
3) affect my activation
Hopefully someone can clarify this for me.
Also can anyone link me to a version of jailbreak for Mac (PPC).
Thanks

It will not affect anything, it will not erase or destory any portion of the iPhone as you use it today. It basically creates a hole so that other applications can access the file system and be able to read/write to it. Thats basically what it does. Jailbreak for Macs are now normally part of these all in one apps like iActivator. You should be able to find one for PPC.

iActivator/iNdepedence works on PPC. Also, jailbreak won't affect your general phone usage. All it does is run a second version of the AFC program on the phone which allows full filesystem access.
The AFC program is what iTunes uses to access files on your phone. However, the normal version only allows you to write to certain areas of the phone. So for jailbreak we run a second copy of it which doesn't have that limitation. iTunes still uses the original version, so it works exactly the same as before.

Thanks, Operator. The best explaination I've heard so far. Do you recommend returning the phone to jail for normal daily operations?

If you run SSH on your phone, then you'll need to keep it jailbroken all the time.
I personally keep mine jailbroken as I don't really see any harm in it. I guess if you downloaded and ran some malicious software it could wipe out the files on your phone, but then there's the same risk with regular computer software too.
