    Default DIVX rip to iPhone

i've been trying to find a program for mac that converts a divx (avi) file into a format that i can put to my iTunes to and eventually put in my iPhone. all the ones i've stumbled across have either been trial versions or super slow programs. i just need a fast program that will convert the .avi file to play on iTunes and hopefully make it a small file so it won't take up too much space. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I've been looking for the same thing, i tried handbrake but didnt work with the avi files, tried others with watermarks because they were trial versions, and another one that only did half the job (50%)/

Does somebody else know which software we could use for avi?

Best program by far is Visualhub, IMHO. This baby will convert ANYthing TO anything. I have thrown some more exotic formats like high resolution .MKV stuff in and it just spits out perfect iPhone compatible files.

It will even put the files into iTunes for you. Visualhub gives you options to choose quality settings. As a reference: a 720P episode of Heroes will take around 48mins to convert to iPhone on "Go Nuts" setting (insanely high quality). The final file will be around 730-780MB, coming from 1.07GB in its original .MKV shape. Xvid movies of 700MB will come out around 700-800MB, on the "High" setting.

I work on a 2.16 MacBook Pro, 2GB, Core Duo.

Oh yes: the fans will come on. Yes they will. Nothing taxes my laptop like Visualhub.

knowing the video specs of the iPhone
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
you could just about use any good video converter known to the mac. until dedicated applications pop up the scene, you'll have to manually find your luck using visualhub, ffmpegX (what i use) or mpeg2works (all to be found at macupdate.com or … yes … any search machine). try some small file first to find out the best settings for your taste! i don't recommend popcorn as it is using several opensource community driven parts of software, on a commercial base, and it doesn't offer any improvements to the aforementioned apps other than a fancy GUI.

I use Videodora (link here: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPhone/ ). It's free, works great, various settings and fast enough for my tastes.

I have downloaded this Videora program, I have WinXP and it works on my computer BUT I have inserted 700 Mb .avi movie and then make it to .H264 format, program has said it will be cca. 550 Mb and when it is all done the movie was 1,16 Gb !!!??? What up with that ?? Also I am searching for something that encodes subtitles in the same pass.

    Cheers
