    Slightly off topic, but....
    I still don't understand why it can't be used as a normal disk drive.

    If people can jailbreak the device so that certain parts of the drive are now accessable, why can't this be done so that they are accessable as a HDD?

    Not that I'm a expert or anything...

    on linux you can mount it as a folder throught sshfs;
    'mount hfs over ssh', of course you must have ssh running.
    you can also sync your library via amarok

    Well, you can use it as a disk drive by installing OpenSSH and connecting to it with a SFTP client.
    If you are on 2.0, then you can get DataCase from AppStore (See Veiosoft.com)

    Thumbs up if I helped.

    Not quite the same though is it? I used to use sharepod with my old iPod, it was great, just a 500kb .exe that went straight onto the iPod disk drive and it worked as a sipmlified itunes. the beauty of it was that you could plug it into any computer and use it. not to mention how easy it was to get music back off of it!

    We need something like this bad!

    scrap that. looked around and a new version of sharepod is out that supports iphone (including fw2.0)

    here's a link to the website.

    I haven't given this a go yet, if it hasn't changed since my 30gb iPod days, i'll be happy.

    No need for swaptunes anymore!!

    The biggest problem I think is not that you can't use it as a hard disk. Fortunately there is some software available that you can manage that one way or another. The problem is that you want to transfer, let's say a movie from your computer to another, the owner of which is not an iPhone user. You should tell him to download the application to use it there as well.

    Question: when you plug-in the iphone to a pc, it can automatically detect the camera's folder ( i can't remember if this happens only when iTunes is installed...). I don't know how things work, but it is not possible for a backround-running application to "link" a folder of our choise as the iphone plugs-in, just like the camera photos folder?
