Default [Advice]How to back up 3rd party instsalled Apps

I've got all the apps i need installed on 1.1.4 iPhone, inlcuding some commercial ones. Now i fear that if anything goes wrong and i need to restore, i will have to spend hours to install them again. Is there a way to back them up?
I've tried timecapsule, it doesnt have any option to back up custom apps.
I'm also looking for an app to alert me when the phone battery is low. Showing a text doesnt help when the phone is in my pocket. I need vibration or sound alert.
    I'm using Windows BTW.

well with the new ziphone you can create an archive with all your apps in it to be installed on a fresh iphone.... and it does bsd and openssh automatically

Well there are no easy ways but i knoiw one.
Through the iPhone Browser or WinSCP connect to your iPhone/iTouch and go to Applications directory then copy each folder to your desktop. The folder should be FileName.app. ALL YOUR 3RD PARTY APPS ARE BACKED UP!
